Gal Gadot In Wonder Woman 3 Doesn’t Look Promising

Gal Gadot‘s future as Wonder Woman looks bleak. Since the formation of DC Studios in November, Gal Gadot’s status has swung up and down. Speculation and rumors pointed in opposite directions. However, per Forbes, she could be leaving the role entirely. In fact, it may have nothing to do with DC Studios’ heads.

If so, the red flags rose months ago. Perhaps we were simply in denial for not calling it. After all, it’s hard to imagine Gal Gadot no longer being Wonder Woman. She has defined this character for generations to come such as Lynda Carter did in the ’70s.

In any case, her departure could originate from Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins’ own exit.

In December, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Wonder Woman 3 was no longer in development. Well, at least Jenkins’ version of it. Indeed, Warner Bros. Discovery rejected Jenkins’ script treatment.

Media outlets then claimed that, as a result, Jenkins abandoned it. Thereafter, Jenkins fired back on Twitter. She stated the opposite happened:

“When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”

In other words, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran found no place for her in the Wonder Woman franchise.

On some level, it’s understandable. Wonder Woman 1984 disappointed critics and audiences alike. At the box office, the sequel fought pandemic fears and a simultaneous HBO Max release. With a $200 million budget, the movie flopped with $169.6 million worldwide. Perhaps if Jenkins remembered what ’80s music was, that may have helped. Or at least make it watchable.

Regardless, Jenkins’ Wonder Woman was far superior. Wonder Woman 1984 brought out the campy humor. 1984 featured darker genre fare such as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins, and The Terminator. Against that, Wonder Woman 1984 would’ve bombed in 1984, too.

Nevertheless, insiders claimed DC Studios did want to keep Gal Gadot. On the other hand, some disputed it. Indeed, Gunn is planning a reboot of some sort. He left fans depressed with the firing of Henry Cavill’s Superman. Gunn will replace him with a younger actor.

Thus, many felt Gal Gadot could be next.

But until Gunn unlocks his DC slate, nobody outside a fly on his wall truly knows his plans. Perhaps Jason Momoa does because of his celebratory video. (He’s Lobo; bank on it).

Granted, Gunn told a fan he hadn’t “booted” Gadot. Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean she stays, either. According to Forbes:
“Gal Gadot seems to have indicated she is done playing the role.”

Oddly, they didn’t link to any sources. Personally, I don’t recall Gadot saying anything about it. Prior to Jenkins leaving, she tweeted otherwise:

“A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman.I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.”

Was it a goodbye? She said, “Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.” Emphasis on “her.” Then again, with Jenkins gone, she may have bolted herself.

Gunn should open Pandora’s box on Monday morning. Maybe he’ll provide answers about Gadot then. Time is running out on his January delivery date.
