DC Studios’ Elseworlds Could Open Doors For The Rock And Henry Cavill

DC Studios’ decision to pursue Elseworlds could open doors for the Rock and Henry Cavill to fight. No, this isn’t a rumor. After all, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn locked its secrets in Castle Doom. Nevertheless, The Hollywood Reporter might have a key.

When the Rock revealed Black Adam isn’t included in Gunn’s plans yet, he dropped a ray of light. He tweeted:

James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.

Many focused on the cancellation of Black Adam 2. Although the Rock doesn’t say it directly, his message is clear. On one hand, this is sad news. Black Adam currently sits at an 88% Audience score. Obviously, many people liked the movie. However, the $391.1 global box office barely missed its reportedly $400 million worldwide goal. (Some claim it needed significantly more.)

In any case, Black Adam didn’t acquire the Joker and The Batman get out of jail card. Those successful franchises continue outside Gunn’s DCU plans. They exist in the DC multiverse. And that’s where Black Adam might return. In an Elseworlds film.

Gunn admitted they will pursue Elseworlds projects on Twitter. DC Comics debuted the Elseworlds imprint in 1989 with Gotham by Gaslight. They’re basically DC’s version of Marvel Comics’ What If…? series. In other words, they’re out-of-continuity stories. In fact, the previous Warner Bros. regime considered Zack Snyder’s Justice League to be one.

Furthermore, the Rock said they would explore “valuable ways” to use Black Adam. Therefore, they’ll save Black Adam for the Big One. A movie that will rake in dough. On the surface, there are two possibilities. One is Crisis on Infinite Earths, which former DC Films president Walter Hamada planned for.

The other is Kingdom Come. Gunn has teased Kingdom Come on social media. Writer Mark Waid’s 1996 comic finds an older generation of DC superheroes battling their younger incarnations. Without a doubt, this sets up the SnyderVerse vs. DCU actors like no other.

Likewise, Avengers: Secret Wars focuses on a multiverse battle between young and old. Without a doubt, Henry Cavill could play the aging Superman in a Kingdom Come film. Is Henry Cavill truly finished with DC Studios? As the DCU’s Man of Steel, yes. But Gunn admitted there might be something else. He stated:

But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

The dialogue there is similar to what the Rock said. The Rock has shown interest. Hiram Garcia, president of the Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions, “would love to make” it someday.

Many SnyderVerse followers felt down and angry at Gunn’s decision to reboot. Nonetheless, Kingdom Come with the Rock and Cavill could unite this fractured audience, if only for one film.
