Henry Cavill Could Return To DC As A Different Character

Henry Cavill Could Return To DC As A Different Character

Fans might be disappointed that Henry Cavill’s time as Superman is over, but we could still see him as another DC superhero. Perhaps even a villain.

After all the hubbub about him returning last October, he even made an announcement about it. Now Cavill is not Superman anymore again? Regardless, it’s not his fault. Even though I can blame the old regime for how it handled the DCEU.

As we have said before, there is a plan to reboot the DC Universe, eventually. The question is how they plan to make that happen. So far, it looks like Superman is the first film to work on. As DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has said previously, he is the priority. But what people are upset, or even angry about is that Henry Cavill won’t be reprising his role as the Man of Steel. Gunn has said that they’ll be focusing on a younger Superman.

Cavill has announced on his social media that he is done being Superman. He said in his official social media pages:

I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.

It’s crushing news to many fans. Even people who are not fans of the DC Universe know how much the role fits him. There were many who rooted for him to reprise the role one way or another. So much so that the Rock even made efforts making sure that Cavill would cameo in his recently released Black Adam. What now? All the work The Rock did is all gone? What about the fans?

Gunn said that he is a fan of Henry Cavill, and so is his co-CEO and co-chair Peter Safran. And based on what Gunn has said on Twitter, DC Studios and Cavill seem to be on good terms. Gunn said:

But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

Now we wonder, what does this mean? Of course, Gunn is only handling DC Studios and nothing else. In other words, Cavill could return to DC. Will he be back as another character? We don’t know.

Some people are justifiably upset. We certainly are.

But Cavill could return for a Crisis. Yes, we mentioned this before that Crisis on Infinite Earths could happen. This is speculation, but for me, it seems that Crisis in DC Studios’ long-term plans. And this can work, and they need a new Superman and a new universe for it. We’ve seen Spider-Man: No Way Home with three generations of Spider-Men.

Just a few years ago, we can’t imagine seeing Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield having a conversation about being Spider-Men. But Marvel and Sony broke boundaries. In other words, the studio knows that the audience understands how the multiverse works. Marvel Studios is doing the heavy lifting to explain things.

Not to mention the fact that Crisis on Infinite Earths has happened on television through Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse. This was even years before Marvel Studios did it on the big screen. Thus, it is safe to say that the audience, let alone the DC fans, are more than ready to see multiple characters of the DC Universe. Specifically, Supermen in a single scene.

This means we may be able to see the new Superman meet Cavill’s Superman. But at the end, the SnyderVerse will be the casualty when Crisis ends. Apparently, former DC Films president Walter Hamada did get his way to reboot the DC Cinematic Universe. Ironically, his successors will make the same mistake.

Right now, I still hope that we can still get a conclusion for Cavill’s Superman. If there are plans to actually make Crisis on Infinite Earths, then that would be the best way to end his version. Cavill’s Superman doesn’t even need to die. Just close out the universe and give hope that the SnyderVerse still survives in one form or another.

But again, this is speculation. All we know right now is that Cavill as Superman is done. But the fact still remains that Gunn and Safran are having talks with Cavill for future projects. And in what universe could that future project be but in the DC Universe that they are building, right?
