Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Sounds Cooler Than DC Films’ Upcoming Projects

As new details drop, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon sounds more thrilling than anything on DC Films’ official calendar. Considering the old Warner Bros. regime cancelled his DCEU projects, Zack Snyder has the ultimate mic drop.

This may sound like Zack Snyder bias, but last I checked DC Films has no characters called Blood Axe coming up. True, nothing is really known of Ray Fisher’s intergalactic warrior. Nevertheless, Blood Axe sounds so metal that Motörhead would raise their devil’s horns in approval.

Maybe that’s why Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav killed The Wonder Twins. He saw Blood Axe on Rebel Moon‘s character sheet and raised the white flag.

DC Films’ line-up without the SnyderVerse looks like Top-40 radio before Nirvana crashed the party. Only Black Adam promises high-octane fisticuffs and epic adventure. In other words, it’s pure Rock & roll.

Meanwhile, Zack Snyder throws a Blood Axe on Netflix.

Of course, DC Films will rise again once Zaslav replaces president Walter Hamada. When he restores the SnyderVerse, only then can he compete with Marvel Studios.

Right now, DC Films can’t even stop a Blood Axe.

For months, geekdom has known that Rebel Moon is in the works for Netflix. From the conception to the inspiration, art to screenshots, characters to casting, they’re all out there.

In fact, Zack Snyder himself updates through his tweets.

Last year, Zack Snyder announced that he will co-write and direct Rebel Moon. It draws inspiration from Akira Kurosawa and Star Wars.

Zack Snyder described Rebel Moon‘s evolution:

I’ve spent the last two or three years building out this universe. Every corner has to be painted in. I’ve been doing designs, constantly drawing and really cultivating its fertile ground to make this world fully realized.

From superheroes to Spartan warriors to undead hordes, Zack Snyder has made quite the mark in the industry. The official logline of Rebel Moon reads:

When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.

Establishing a main heroine and a main villain in a far away galaxy will need more characters.

Sofia Boutella is Kora, who will face Ed Skrein’s Balisarius.

Meanwhile, Cary Elwes is the King of the Galactic Empire.

Djimon Hounsou is General Titus while Fisher’s Blood Axe becomes Kora’s ally. Fisher was the heart of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Insiders expect Fisher’s star to go supernova after Rebel Moon.

Stuart Martin and probably Jena Malone play villains. Speculation buzzes that Malone will portray the spider-human hybrid villain Harmada. Harmada is too close to Hamada to be a coincidence. Nonetheless, we’ll pretend to be a play-it-safe trade and claim we didn’t notice. (We noticed.)

Other actors reported to be in the movie are Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, Cleopatra Coleman and Fra Fee.

Other cited characters with unannounced actors are:

Noble with the description of being charismatic and imposing, commanding yet brutal.

Gunnar who is handsome and physically fit. Serious, earnest and dependable.

Aris, who is a new soldier that still holds some innocence and compassion despite the sadism he has witnessed.

Devin joins the story also as a new soldier. He is sensitive and conflicted about his mission.

Sam is Scandinavian/Northern European. She is a kind, gentle-spirited, hard-working farm girl. Even though she’s not worldly, she is welcoming to the foreigners who arrive in her village.

Zack Snyder intends for the movie to become a new IP. In fact, the current production, which will last until this November, is shooting two movies back-to-back.

In addition, we have also posted news where Ray Fisher’s Blood Axe character may have his own spin-off.

This saga is truly Zack Snyder’s capsule as a director and a writer. It’s one that he can truly call all his own.

In the meantime, DC Films still awaits J.J. Abrams Superman film that’ll probably go nowhere.
