Zack Snyder has begun casting his Star Wars-inspired film, Rebel Moon.
Specifically, Zack Snyder selected Sofia Boutella as the front face of the Netflix movie.
After the success of Army of the Dead and its prequel Army of Thieves, Zack Snyder proceeds with his next Netflix adventure.
While mostly still shrouded in mystery, here is what we know so far about Rebel Moon.
Zack Snyder explained that Rebel Moon will be a Seven Samurai-influenced sci-fi film.
He found his lead after Boutella impressed the Justice League director.
Moreover, this was after some testing with a small group of potential leads for the pic.
Boutella has turned heads since making her hand at acting.
Before going into acting, Boutella mainly focused on dancing.
Boutella first started in 2014.
At the time, she went for more supporting roles rather than leads.
After all, it was a way to learn more from more experienced co-stars.
Nevertheless, she soon found herself in her first major movie role only one year later in 2015, playing Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Afterward, in 2017, she worked alongside seasoned names like Charlize Theron and James McAvoy in Atomic Blonde.
Zack Snyder hasn’t revealed much about Boutella’s role.
Boutella will play a young woman trying to gather warriors from nearby planets.
Her mission is to defend a peaceful colony against the evil Regent Balisarius.
Snyder has stated that he has always wanted to create something in homage to Akira Kurosawa.

In other words, it looks like we will get that in the form of a story happening in an alternate galaxy.
Zack Snyder co-wrote Rebel Moon alongside Say Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.
He will direct and also produce it with his wife Deborah Snyder.
Boutella is an Algerian born dancer and actress that began living in Paris at a young age.
While there, she was exposed to many forms of dance.
She was raised in a household where arts and self-expression was given importance and attention, something she feels lucky to have.
Zack Snyder originally developed Rebel Moon as a Star Wars pitch to Lucasfilm.
After they passed on it, he took the concept for himself.
Rebel Moon is set to premiere in 2023 at the earliest.
