Warner Bros. Discovery Plans To Replace DC Films President Walter Hamada

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is looking to replace DC Films president Walter Hamada. This is part of Zaslav’s plan to restructure DC Entertainment.

Variety broke DC Entertainment’s overhaul yesterday. They reported:

David Zaslav, the CEO of the combined companies, and top leadership have been toying with the idea of turning DC into its own solidified content vertical.

If this sounds familiar, I had already scooped it on February 1 on Syl Abdul’s YouTube channel. Watch it here.

At the time, insiders revealed Zaslav considered renaming it DC Studios. Zaslav may or may not keep that name. But the idea is the same. Whatever it’s called, it would consolidate Warner Bros. Discovery’s various DC properties, such as film, TV, and the original comic books.

Zaslav wants someone like Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to run it. No, it won’t be Feige but an individual with his visionary talent.

On June 1, 2021, we leaked that DC Films, under Discovery, would resemble Marvel Studios. Geekosity staff writer Edwin Francisco wrote:

Zaslav is already looking into how to improve the DC Films by restructuring it similar to Marvel Studios.

To clarify: structurally, not stylistically. Basically, DC Films might have a central figure to be in charge of their movie and TV properties.

This will be their version of Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios.

Likewise, Variety added:

Before the merger closed, Zaslav vetted candidates with experience in creating and nurturing blockbuster intellectual property with a goal of potentially finding someone to serve as a creative and strategic czar similar to what Marvel has in Kevin Feige.

Variety‘s article confirms my scoops.

On April 6, I stated that Walter Hamada’s days as DC Films president are numbered. An insider revealed then:

Hamada won’t stick around, one way or another. There was gossip of Zaslav either removing DC Films or transforming it into DC Studios. That would consolidate everything in the DC banner. Hamada isn’t expected to continue with either decision.

In other words, the puzzle pieces are falling into place.

Sources indicate that Zaslav won’t fire Walter Hamada immediately. Zaslav is still in the transition stage. He may have begun the bloodbath quickly, but he needs Walter Hamada to pass the baton to the new person.

Per Variety, DC Films hasn’t unlocked “the full potential of the DC Comics universe of characters.” Walter Hamada is among those to blame for such failure.
