Arrowverse cast members reunited in bittersweet behind-the-scenes shot for The Flash. The CW series enters its ninth and final season on February 8. Arrow veteran David Ramsey posted the photo on Instagram. It includes Ramsey standing in costume with Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), the Flash (Grant Gustin), and Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale).

The synopsis for Season Nine reads:

“After defeating the Reverse Flash once and for all, the ninth season of The Flash picks up one week later following their epic battle, and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before. But when a deadly group of Rogues descends on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team… must once again defy impossible odds to save the day. A deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen’s heroic legacy. And in their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits, in order to save Central City one last time.”

Arrow launched producer Greg Berlanti’s TV universe of DC superheroes on October 10, 2012. Amidst the polarizing actions of the DCEU (now DCU), the Arrowverse looks innocent in hindsight. Although the series began to show their age, they always began strong. Nevertheless, that’s the norm for network television anyway.

On the other hand, perhaps we hold the Arrowverse to the high standards of Breaking Bad or Mad Men. Or maybe even Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which found its groove halfway through Season One. And rocked consistently until its explosive series finale.

Furthermore, viewers who were children when the Arrowverse began are in college now. Thus, the nostalgia will kick in sooner than later. Admittedly, Ramsey’s picture moved me more than I thought. They originally banded together before I had my life-threatening stroke. No COVID-19, too. Indeed, every person has personal memories attached when they watched those shows.

I will miss them.

The Arrowverse brought Earth-2 to live-action. Crisis on Infinite Earths. DC fans asked to see Matt Ryan as Constantine again after NBC cancelled his program. What did Berlanti do? He adopted Ryan’s Constantine for the Arrowverse.

Compare that to Warner Bros.’ treatment of DC followers, Henry Cavill, and Zack Snyder. Berlanti listened and delivered.

The Flash became the Arrowverse’s most acclaimed program. Without a doubt, the early seasons represented the finest DC programs. Ramsey shared his appreciation. He said:

“Congratulations to Team Flash for nine incredible seasons. But most importantly.. thank ALL OF YOU for your undying support for this universe. None of this is possible without you! Enjoy the mashup you had no idea you needed!”

Flaws and all, The Flash had a terrific run.

The photo reminds us of that.
