Zack Snyder Hints At Working With Henry Cavill Again

Zack Snyder teased working with Henry Cavill again in the future. Another site would tell you it meant nothing. However, we’re not going to be cowards and play it safe. That’s not how we interpreted it. Zack Snyder showed this message to the world on video. We know what many of you thought. Without a doubt, there are a number of skeptical fans who swept it under the rug.

Dismissed it.

Nothing to see here, move along now.

But that’s not Geekosity. We see what you do. It’s our job to honestly report our thoughts. Granted, sources still tell us that Zack Snyder hasn’t signed a new contract with Warner Bros. Discovery yet. After all, he’s still finishing his first-look contract with Netflix. However, that agreement ends in 2023.

On the other hand, there’s a loophole in Snyder’s Netflix deal. On July 24, 2021, we analyzed The Hollywood Reporter‘s initial coverage. THR stated that he “has not abandoned working with established intellectual property, especially in the comics field, from which Snyder has had some of his biggest successes.”

That’s DC Films, now known as DC Studios.

In other words, Snyder could lock himself in for the Man of Steel sequel now. Obviously, he’s busy with Rebel Moon at the moment. Once that’s done, he could provide SnyderVerse followers with a dawn of hope. But he doesn’t have to wait until then for the contract.

People cautiously expect Snyder to direct Man of Steel 2. Or Superman, if that’s the new name. We believe it is from what insiders revealed to us. At the least, it’s a working title.

There are a lot of fans of Henry Cavill who are over the moon on him returning as Superman. Snyder himself is one of them. In Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where Cavill himself was a guest, Snyder sent a video message. He exclaimed:

“I can’t wait to work with you in the future and you are, of course, the greatest Superman ever.”

The money shot are these words:

“I can’t wait to work with you in the future.”

Snyder could’ve stated something more uncertain. For example, a vague “I hope we can work together in the future” would’ve still lit fandom on fire. Snyder has to be aware of how his admirers would react with “can’t wait.” He could’ve re-recorded it for a more vague reaction.

Instead, Snyder teases us with the possibility of working in the DCEU again. Oh wait, it’s not the DCEU anymore. WBD changed it to the shorter DCU. Anyway, Snyder saying, “I can’t wait to work with you in the future,” sounds like a clue. Even though there are no announcements yet, we do presume that WBD is already talking with Snyder. It’s no secret that The Rock himself was inspired from Snyder’s vision and style. This is very apparent in watching Black Adam.

Nonetheless, Snyder has been focused on his original work. Netflix has been making sure that Snyder is busy. For now, that is.

So now the question is, to what extent will Snyder come back? Will he direct the new Superman film? After all, WBD searches for its writer. They didn’t say director. Have they already found him in Snyder?

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and Snyder are longtime friends. In fact, Snyder wrote Gunn’s first movie, the Dawn of the Dead remake. Gunn praised Snyder, especially Man of Steel, in 2019. Watch it here. Seriously, at 1:29.

Snyder made a lot of tough decisions in Man of Steel. Older fans questioned why Superman had to kill General Zod.  They forget writer/artist John Byrne had Superman slay Zod in Superman No. 22 in 1988. But regardless of what people thought of Snyder’s vision for Superman, the majority does agree that Cavill is a good Superman. Snyder did an amazing job casting him as the Man of Steel.

Cavill thinks fondly of Snyder. The love is mutual. Henry Cavill admitted:

He’s a lovely man, he’s a lovely man and I am enormously appreciative of everything he’s done for me, especially by casting me in Man of Steel. Those are formative memories of mine career wise. It was when everything changed. I remember them fondly, fondly hanging above fields in Illinois. Amazing memories and a lot to be thankful for. Zack, if you’re watching, thank you my friend.

No one can deny that Snyder’s decision of making Cavill as Superman was a good choice. The film made him a star. After Man of Steel in 2013, almost every movie he participated in got a lot of attention. At this point, Cavill can pretty much choose his roles. Fans love him, and him being a geek himself really connects with the fans.

With this, if Snyder does accept a director’s chair in a future DCU film, we’re pretty sure that Cavill would jump on board working with him again.
