Thunderbolts Has Hidden Intriguing Connection To Wolverine

Thunderbolts is hiding an intriguing connection to Wolverine. Marvel Studios will likely hide it from their marketing; nevertheless, a new rumor claims that Thunderbolts will help open the doors to arguably the most popular of the X-Men. Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3; however, it’s doubtful he’ll appear in Thunderbolts.

Nevertheless, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is making his chess moves.

One of the most surprising announcements for the MCU’s Multiverse Saga was that a Thunderbolts movie was in active development. Originally, the Thunderbolts were planned for Marvel TV when Jeph Loeb was in charge. But Loeb is gone and Marvel Studios took over their television series.

Recently, it was confirmed that Thunderbolts will be getting a rewrite as well as a new writer. Don’t worry, this isn’t a sign of trouble; Marvel Studios is simply taking the time the strengthen their projects. After all, Phase Four saw the company receive their first box-office and critical disappointments.

Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson was originally attached to pen the script for Thunderbolts. However, with the recent shake-up behind the scenes, the screenplay will now be rewritten by Lee Sung Jin. Moreover, the movie will also mark the returns of several fan favorite characters from previous MCU entries.

A majority of which have been introduced in some of Marvel Studios’ more recent movies and Disney Plus series. For example, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is confirmed to be the team’s leader. In addition, longtime MCU character Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) will serve as the Thunderbolts’ second in command.

Other members include: Red Guardian (David Harbour), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).

In the comics, the Thunderbolts are a team of villains and anti-heroes assembled by Captain America’s classic foe, Baron Zemo. On the contrary, the MCU’s iteration of the group will instead be brought together by Contessa Valeninta Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louise-Dreyfus).

Fontaine had a prominent role throughout Phase Four, recruiting notable members like U.S. Agent and Belova.

Details regarding the movie’s plot are scarce but a recent rumor has potentially shared some light on what to expect. According to The Hot Mic podcast, Thunderbolts will serve as a follow-up of sorts to 2021’s Eternals. The final battle ended with Tiamut being turned to stone by Sersi (Gemma Chan) in order stop his apocalyptic birth. The team of misfits will be sent to the Celestial’s giant stone corpse.

In addition, their mission will involve them procuring a rare metal alloy unlike anything ever seen in the MCU before. Nonetheless, it’s a well known metal to fans of certain member of the X-Men.

Apparently Tiamut’s remains contain a sample of Adamantium, the same indestructible metal that was bonded to Wolverine’s skeleton. Per the report:

“‘THUNDERBOLTS’ is rumored to explore a team led by Valentina attempting to recover Adamantium from Tiamut Island. Adamantium is a fictional metal alloy and is best known as the substance bonded to Wolverine’s skeleton and claws.”

The arrival of mutants in the MCU has been teased for some time now. Both subtle and obvious hints have been dropped in the MCU. For example, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier visited Wolverine’s old stomping grounds, Madripoor.

Most notably the revelation that Ms. Marvel’s (Iman Vellani) powers stem from a mutation in her genes. The Multiverse has also opened the doors for actors from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies to reprise their roles. Already we’ve seen Patrick Stewart return as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Next we’ll see Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool join the fun in the latter’s upcoming sequel.

Should this Adamantium rumor be true, the MCU is already setting up the debut of their own version of Logan.
