Wolverine does not appear in the new trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, the seeds for his arrival in the MCU are in plain sight.
The footage unveils the first look at Madripoor. The Southeast Asian island is basically Marvel Comics’ version of Singapore.
Created by writer by Chris Claremont and artist Steve Leialoha, Madripoor was introduced in New Mutants No. 35 in 1985.
In the late ’80s, Wolverine turned Madripoor into his stomping grounds. He had a rather ineffective disguise as “Patch” in which he wore an eye patch.
His adventures, many of which were written by Claremont and illustrated by John Buscema, were inspired by Milton Caniff’s Terry and the Pirates comic strip from the ’30s and ’40s.
No Wolverine has been cast by Marvel Studios yet.
Certainly, Disney would love for Hugh Jackman to return in the role. Jackman left an indelible mark on the character similar to that of Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man.
The Falcon And Winter Solider Trailer Teases Wolverine
Jackman’s age, 52, can be an issue going forward considering how physical Wolverine is.
But it should be noted that Keanu Reeves is 56, and he will be 57 in September. Nevertheless, it hasn’t stopped Reeves from the high-voltage action of the John Wick franchise.
Jackman considers the profound Logan to be the proper goodbye for Wolverine.
Sources explain that the best chance of Jackman coming back would be in a Deadpool team-up with Ryan Reynolds. Such a film could be set years prior to Logan or simply exist in Deadpool’s twisted imagination.
With the multiverse, Marvel Studios does have a number of creative options.
Going forward, Marvel Studios wants a younger Wolverine. They can sign the new actor for multiple films.
Although there’s no Wolverine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney Plus, don’t be shocked to see or hear another reference to him besides Madripoor.
