Hugh Jackman now suggests Deadpool 3 might not be his final Wolverine appearance.

When Logan got its release, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman announced their retirement from their characters. They both even received the Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero” for their roles in a superhero film. Thus, it was a surprise to many that Stewart did return for another run as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Jackman did have intentions to stay away from Wolverine after Logan. After so many years of playing the character, fans do understand why he would choose to take a break. But as he watched the first Deadpool film, he did change his mind. Not only that, it was also his idea to return.

Now, everyone knows that he’s returning. Understandably, a question comes to mind: is his appearance in Deadpool 3 a one-time thing? People are wondering if he plans to stay in the MCU. In an interview with The Empire Film Podcast, Hackman said about his future plans for the character:

I imagine every movie as a one and done, that’s how I see it, I’ll be honest I had a two-picture deal at the beginning, but I still assumed it was a one and done. You know back then there were no comic book movies, so I just take it one at a time. I’m lucky that way, I don’t have to think beyond that, but I think it’s the best way to go.

We’ve reported before that Marvel Studios is interested in looking for a new younger actor to be the MCU’s Wolverine in the long run. Kingsman actor Taron Egerton has already expressed his interest in taking the role. And Jackman is not getting any younger; he’s already 54. Nevertheless, MCU chief Kevin Feige loves Jackman as Wolverine. He has captured the audience and, so far, it’s hard to see anyone else take the role.

As far as we know, Jackman returning as Wolverine will depend on Jackman himself. Even their comic-book counterparts have moved from one universe to another.

Marvel Studios can keep on making movies with Jackman if he wants to. Avengers: Secret Wars is likely next.
