Marvel Studios To Reboot Charlie Cox’ The Defenders

Marvel Studios is planning a new series for Charlie Cox‘s The Defenders.

On Netflix, the Defenders became a street-level Avengers. In other words, the Defenders wouldn’t tangle with cosmic foes like Thanos. Rather, they fought the ninja organization the Hand in their 2017 Netflix miniseries.

Charlie Cox’ Daredevil was The Defenders‘ biggest star. After Netflix’ Daredevil debuted in 2015, fans began to anticipate the group he’d form. Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist filled the core of the team. Each of them had their own solo show.

Ex-Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb obviously wanted to capture the MCU formula. The characters met one another in their respective series. The Defenders brought them under the same leaky roof.

Nonetheless, Marvel Studios feels The Defenders didn’t fulfill its potential. Certainly, Charlie Cox is even more popular now than before. Charlie Cox’ cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home reeled in new curious fans.

Furthermore, when Disney Plus added their old Netflix programs, the Defenders found a new audience.

Sources revealed that The Defenders reboot will also be for adults like the original. Specifically, it’ll be tucked behind Disney Plus’ parental lock.

In February 2021, Small Screen scooped that Marvel Studios sought Colter back as Cage. We covered that as well. Insiders add that the current plan is get Colter back. On the other hand, they will recast Iron Fist.

On February 7, 2021, I leaked Jones is gone. Apparently, that hasn’t changed. With the new Defenders, Marvel Studios is discussing the addition of new characters. Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) is a possibility. But Echo (Alaqua Cox) is highly likely.

In 2018, Loeb wanted other members, too. He said:

There are lots of Avengers, and through that, you should be able to ascertain that there may be lots of Defenders. No one at any time referred to them as “The Defenders” — they didn’t wear a little “D” on their belts, and they didn’t go to a building that had a big “Defenders” [sign] in the air. They were four mismatched heroes who were joined by a lot of the other heroes that are in the stories that we do on Netflix, but that was that particular story.

Moreover, there are discussions to include Jon Bernthal’s Punisher to The Defenders. Still, he could just appear in the show and not join the group. Thunderbolts is another matter.

But Charlie Cox’ Daredevil reboot will launch before The Defenders airs. Without a doubt, this could take a while.

Patience.
