Mike Colter might be busting heads and smashing bones again as Luke Cage. Sweet Christmas! According to Small Screen, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige wants Mike Colter to reprise his role for the MCU.
Mike Colter played Cage with charm, dignity, and strength for two seasons on Netflix. Moreoever, Mike Colter’s portrayal was greeted with critical acclaim and fan applause. He personified Cage’s nobility and tough-guy swagger.
Nevertheless, Mike Colter’s Cage didn’t generate the explosive popularity of Charlie Cox’ Daredevil and Jon Bernthal’s the Punisher.
Cox and Bernthal are mentioned more often in social media. Much of this probably has to do with the villain Cottonmouth being killed off halfway through Season One.
Marvel Studios Wants Mike Colter Back As Luke Cage
Played by Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Cottonmouth became an instant favorite. His abrupt departure was generally considered a disappointment; in fact, it turned off a number of viewers. Nevertheless, the high quality of the series and Mike Colter’s performance continued in its final year.
Small Screen‘s Edward Lauder revealed that:
Kevin Feige and his team at Marvel Studios are hard at work planning out the future phases of the MCU, and it looks like many of the actors from the Marvel Netflix shows will be coming back in the MCU as rebooted versions of their characters.
I leaked that Cage will join the Avengers. Such a move would finally land the Hero for Hire in theaters. In 2003, the late director John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood) developed a Luke Cage movie that unfortunately didn’t materialize. Jamie Foxx and Tyrese Gibson were looked at as potential stars.
Lauder confirmed the connection with Moon Knight that I previously scooped. Furthermore, he added that Mike Colter will be offered to come back as Luke Cage for the upcoming Moon Knight TV series on Disney Plus.
