Director Said The Flash’s Ezra Miller Requires Intervention

Written by Edwin Francisco

Director Mary Harron says The Flash‘s Ezra Miller needs an intervention. Miller plays a young Salvador Dali in Harron’s movie Daliland.

For several months Ezra Miller has been on the news with regard to their questionable behavior. From harassment, disorderly conduct, burglary and grooming minors, Miller’s issues kept piling up for months. Not only that, but reports brought older issues into the spotlight. Because of this, people have been demanding to cancel The Flash.

But The Flash is not the only film Ezra Miller took part in that is up for release. They are also in Daliland. The movie focuses on the painter Dali. Miller plays a minor but important role of a youthful version of Dali. Miller’s scenes are for flashbacks only.

Production initially assigned Miller to play a more prominent role in the film. But because of conflicts between filming Fantastic Beasts and Daliland, Miller had to turn down the role. Nevertheless, they recast Miller into another role for flashback sequences.

During this time while working with Harron, she never encountered any problems with Miller. All the issues that happened only surfaced after the production finished the project. She said:

The film was completely finished and wrapped. It might have been different, especially if we were shooting, if there had been bad behavior during that. But this all happened after the film was not only filmed, but edited and mixed and done. I also felt like everybody shot all those things in good faith. Nothing bad happened during our filming, and the film is the film.

Daliland wrapped filming back in May 2021.

Ezra Miller’s issues emerged back in April 2020 with a choking incident. But this was an isolated case. No one would have guessed that there would be more a couple of years down the line.

During this time, Miller has worked on a number of projects like The Flash, Daliland, and Fantastic Beasts.

Miller’s issues only escalated starting from March 2022 with harassment and disorderly conduct. From then on it felt like almost every month we hear that Miller has done another thing here and there. Parties accused them of grooming minors to child manipulation. The last one was on August 7, 2022, a civilian charged Miller with felony burglary for stealing alcohol.

Harron stated in response to Miller’s recent issues:

I’m not condoning anything they’ve done wrong. I think it doesn’t matter how talented someone is, if they’ve done anything wrong, they have to face it. I also think that clearly this is not just a young star acting out. This is much more serious. This seems like something that needs a serious intervention, which I hope has happened.

Miller made a public apology for their behavior last August 15, 2022. And with that, they said that they have started seeking treatment for their “complex mental health issues.”

Then news surfaced saying Miller was in hiding. Still, they got back to work for reshoots for The Flash without incident. Reports indicate that their performance really sells the film. Because of the professional work of Miller, this convinced Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to keep working on The Flash. Regardless of what people thought about Miller being the lead of the film.

The same with Daliland. Miller’s involvement did not affect the quality of the movie. The film should speak for itself. Daliland is on schedule for release this September 17, 2022
