Wolverine‘s yellow costume in Deadpool 3 destroys a rumor about an X-Men name change in the MCU. First of all, Ryan Reynolds posted a photo of Hugh Jackman in Wolverine’s classic yellow outfit on social media. He’s shown walking alongside Reynolds’ Deadpool. Furthermore, it looks like there’s dirt on Wolverine’s threads, suggesting that he’s just been in a fight.
Of course, bub.
Without a doubt, Wolverine’s costume resembles what he wore in writer Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men run for Marvel Comics. On September 24, 2022, I scooped that Marvel Studios would adapt that series. This definitely teases such a direction. A big difference is that Wolverine wears sleeves here. Admittedly, in live action it actually looks better with sleeves.

As built as Jackman still is, at 54, he wouldn’t pull off those huge comic-book muscles with visible arms. And for purists who complain Jackman is taller than his comics counterpart, he’d look totally ridiculous standing next to Deadpool if he were short and in that outfit.

What I also noticed was the X on Wolverine’s belt buckle. As in the X-Men. This shouldn’t be obvious or even worth writing about. Unfortunately, poisonous speculation disguised as gossip has made it worthy of discussion. On June 5, 2019, Victoria Alonso, Marvel Studios’ president of physical production, post-production, VFX and animation, stated:
It’s funny that people call it the X-Men. There’s a lot of female superheroes in that X-Men group, so I think it’s outdated.

Afterward, a chain of click-baiting Disney haters chomped on this like red meat and weaponized it. Suddenly, it seemed like she used Jedi mind control on her boss Kevin Feige to change the X-Men’s billion-dollar name to The Mutants instead. Alonso never had anything close to that kind of power.
In addition, the X-Men is the brand name everyone knows. It’d be foolish and even commercial suicide to change it for any reason.
On March 21, 2023, I leaked on Rogues’ Gallery with Syl Abdul that Alonso was fired for altogether different reasons. Variety reported she was gone a day later.
Jackman debuted as Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men in 2000. Some were concerned Jackman would look cheesy in yellow spandex.
From this Deadpool 3 shot, he’s wearing body armor. Once again, Marvel Studios is giving fans what they’ve always wanted.
After all, John Krasinski became Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. They brought back Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, and Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
