Venom is currently being discussed for a potential role in the MCU’s upcoming Midnight Suns franchise. The Midnight Suns are basically the supernatural Avengers. This legion of monsters could be viewed as Marvel’s Justice League Dark, a group of frightening anti-heroes. However, the Midnight Suns debuted first.

Originally called the Midnight Sons, they initially appeared in Ghost Rider No. 28 in 1992. They were co-created by writer Howard Mackie; artist Andy Kubert; and editor Bobbie Chase. In the MCU, though, they’ll be the Midnight Suns (like in the game) as they will have a female member or two.

The partnership between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures has obviously gotten much stronger in recent years. Following their infamous fallout back in 2019, both companies thankfully came to realize how much they needed each other.

If anything the amount of noise and backlash this break-up generated on social media almost certainly ensured their reconciliation. It was the best choice that the two entertainment giants could make.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a roaring success for both Marvel Studios and Sony, earning nearly $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Furthermore, it currently ranks as the third highest-grossing film of all time domestically.

Moreover, the publicity of the fallout probably helped boost interest in the movie. So much so that they’re beginning to share more than just Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s end-credit scene planted the seed (or symbiote) for Venom’s eventual debut in the MCU. We previously reported that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will wear the black suit in Avengers: Secret Wars.

This is still the plan.

Once separated from Parker, the symbiote will find itself a new host leading to the MCU’s version of Venom. However, it won’t be Tom Hardy this time around.

Venom 3 is planned to be Tom Hardy’s final outing and it’s unknown if Marvel Studios will introduce its own Eddie Brock. Nonetheless, another character will eventually bond with the symbiote and become the MCU’s Venom.

Plans for the character are still in their early days but we’ve heard that something exciting is being developed. Marvel Studios and Sony are currently in talks to have Venom appear with the Midnight Suns. But we do not yet know if he’s included in the first movie.

Geekosity has previously reported that a Midnight Sons adaptation was in development over at Marvel Studios. We originally broke the story on Lords of the Longbox on January 23, 2020.

From what were told, it’ll feature Mahershala Ali’s Blade recruit various horror-themed Marvel characters, possibly with Mephisto as the Big Bad.

One such member will be the Johnny Blaze incarnation of Ghost Rider whose MCU debut has been long overdue. Rumors about who could portray the stuntman turned spirit of vengeance still persist online. The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus remains the favorite to assume the role of Blaze.

Other members will include Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac); Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly); Werewolf By Night (Gael García Bernal); and Man-Thing (Carey Jones).

All of which have already been recently introduced into the MCU. The last potential member will be Venom should Marvel and Sony come to an agreement. Sources indicate Midnight Suns will be R-rated.

With Deadpool 3 being Marvel Studios’ first R-rated release, it only makes sense that Midnight Suns receive the same rating.

Both of Sony’s solo Venom films were PG-13 and it’s likely that the upcoming sequel will be no different.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see Venom fully unleash his more gruesome and horrifying side in the MCU. Interestingly, Venom is in Marvel’s Midnight Suns game. Therefore, they’re already planting the seeds for this collaboration.
