Thor 5 is not being developed by polarizing director Taika Waititi. An online rumor surfaced a few days ago that alarmed a number of MCU fans. It reportedly stated that Marvel Studios was moving forward with Thor 5; in addition, Waititi could possibly direct another film in the franchise.
However, per Comic Book Movie, that isn’t the case.
According to CBM, the report appears to be completely made up:
It looks as if Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi’s comments on a “potential” Thor 5 in Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special were used to create the narrative that another film was in the works and that Taika wants to return.

For many, Waititi’s MCU work has been a mixed bag. On one hand, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok was a refreshing shift from superhero gloom. Awash in ’80s colors and buddy movie wit, Ragnarok breathed new life in the Norse god’s franchise.
Both critics and audiences embraced the movie; as a result, it blew up the box office with $855 million globally.
However, Waititi followed it up with 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which perhaps went too far with the comedy for a number of fans.
Overall, it was still an entertaining adventure. Nevertheless, it couldn’t quite catch up to its predecessor. Then again, its $789.9 million worldwide haul proved that star Chris Hemsworth hadn’t lost any of his market value.
With Hollywood productions stalled by strikes, there’s nothing being developed by Marvel Studios at the moment. Nonetheless, even before the picket lines, insiders told me that no decision had been made concerning Thor 5. Nor was Waititi’s name brought up.
Certainly, it doesn’t mean the movie won’t ever happen.

The possibility remains although there will be a traffic jam at Marvel Studios once the dust has settled. I debunked the scoop over the weekend on Speedy’s Multiverse on YouTube. Marvel Studios wants to take the character in a different direction so Waititi’s future involvement is slim. In fact, Hemsworth admitted his desire for a tonal shift in March. He stated:
You look at Thor 1 and 2, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it. I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested.
The same can be said for moviegoers as well.
