The MCU is looking for a “big name” director to helm The Fantastic Four.
Just a month ago The Fantastic Four saw its director Jon Watts leave. It happened around the time when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness delivered a Reed Richards (John Krasinski) cameo. Watts directed the MCU’s Spider-Man films with Tom Holland.
Marvel Studios originally hired him for The Fantastic Four. But later, he said that he’s going to take a break from superhero films after Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Recently, Watts directed the pilot for The Old Man. Furthermore, he will also be the show runner for Disney’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew starring Jude Law.
The MCU Searching For Big Name To Direct Fantastic Four
A new report states that we won’t be expecting any names of directors anytime soon. Nevertheless, there is an extensive list to choose from. In fact, we reported Krasinski himself and Bryce Dallas Howard as potential picks.
But Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige is being more careful as to who he’s selecting:
Kevin doesn’t want oversee entire shoot and after not having to worry about that with Raimi, he is very game to same outcome with this shoot.
Feige usually nabs directors who have done smaller films. And most of the time, MCU films have been their boost to popularity. If you remember, the Russo Brothers only had You, Me and Dupree (2006), Welcome to Collinwood (2002) and Pieces (1997) before they directed one of the most popular MCU films ever made, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Cate Shortland, director of Black Widow, only had three films. Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has the movie as his first blockbuster film.
Feige’s choice feels like great opportunities for incoming directors. But at the same time, Feige is a hands-on producer. He makes sure that the look and feel of the film feels like it’s in the MCU.
However, being hands-on is not easy; in fact, it’s quite stressful. Feige did get Brad Winderbaum to focus on Disney Plus projects so that he could focus on the films. Feige’s experience of having a veteran director like Sam Raimi could have reconsidered his stance on getting comparatively newer directors.

One must remember that Feige is also currently working on a Star Wars movie.
He really has his hands full.
Geekosity writer Joy Lyn Parohinog Francisco reported a month ago that Krasinski might direct The Fantastic Four film. His films, especially both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place II, have proven that he is an outstanding director. If he does return as the lead star of The Fantastic Four film, directing it would be an easy choice, but it all depends if he wants the responsibility of both acting and directing.
Krasinski would be a fine MCU filmmaker. Nonetheless, there are other candidates out there.
