Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves hasn’t been Gunn’d down, despite recent speculation. Fake news spread like wildfire through social media and then through our competition that DC Studios cancelled the project. However, Warner Bros. Discovery quickly shot it down like a spy balloon.
When DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn didn’t include Constantine 2 in his slate, it became a instant target for easy scoop clout. But it backfired. This shot in the dark fizzled into bad gas. It’s what happens when you don’t read the memo in its entirety:
“It’s worth noting that Gunn stated there are more projects that will be announced for Chapter 1.”
In other words, there’s time for Gunn to add Constantine 2 later.
Constantine 2 nearly broke the Internet in September. For many DC followers, that time was nearly like a Golden Age. WBD CEO David Zaslav showed the exit doors to the old regime, such as DC Films’ president Walter Hamada. Henry Cavill was to return as Superman in Black Adam.

In addition, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom added Ben Affleck’s Batman. All together they teased the SnyderVerse’s return. Certainly, they produced the right conditions for director Zack Snyder to complete his DC story.
Instead, Zaslav hired Gunn and Aquaman producer Peter Safran as DC Studios’ two heads. Gunn rudely pulled the rug from Cavill and announced a reboot of sorts. But as I predicted, Gunn couldn’t quite execute Order 66. After all, he’d have to recast his own Peacemaker cast, including his wife Jennifer Holland.
Therefore, it’s doubtful he’ll unite DC fandom with his reset universe. The decision to remove Cavill and subsequently Affleck increased the bitterness among DC followers. Granted,
No, that wasn’t happening. After all, imagine the uproar if another actress became Emilia Harcourt. Gosh. There’d be DC boycotts, right? Forget Cavill’s Superman, Harcourt’s recasting could crash the servers. Mass hysteria.
Thus, to ensure that didn’t happen, he kept his goofy part of the DCEU (now DCU) alive and tossed the SnyderVerse aside. As YouTube personality Syl Abdul would say, “Is this what the streets want?”
In any case, Gunn spared the rod on Constantine 2 as well. To give the proper credit, sources told me Warner Bros. Pictures Group co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy didn’t want it thrown into the Phantom Zone. Indeed, notice how neither Gunn nor Safran debunked the BS but a WBD representative. Even though this Reeves horror movie originates from DC Comics.
Constantine 2 With Keanu Reeves Given Positive Update After Fake News Spread
Insiders told me a while back that Constantine 2 will be an Elseworlds project. Therefore, it might not connect with DC Studios’ upcoming Swamp Thing movie. I originally scooped this on a members-only stream on December 22, 2022. It’s now open for public viewing here.
Both characters have deep ties to one another and in Justice League Dark. John Constantine actually debuted in Swamp Thing No. 37 in 1985.
On the other hand, at least there is a Constantine 2. After all, Constantine only earned $230.9 million globally at the box office in 2005. Nonetheless, higher ticket prices today. Constantine did develop a larger cult audience via home video and cable. Certainly, Reeves’ John Wick franchise boosted his value. And Matt Ryan’s much-missed version of Constantine on the CW kept the exorcist alive.
Although Reeves’ Constantine wasn’t actually comic-accurate (he is British in the comics), the sequel is among the truly exciting DC projects going forward.
