Andy Muschietti Builds Excitement For Ben Affleck In The Flash

Ben Affleck had a joyous time playing Batman in The Flash movie. In a recent interview, it actually sounded like Ben Affleck wishes to continue playing the Dark Knight.

Without a doubt, it’s completely the opposite of what he said about his sour experience working with director Joss Whedon on 2017’s Justice League.

Ben Affleck described that time in the most painful way. He admitted:

“It broke my heart. There was an idea of someone [Joss Whedon] coming in, like, ‘I’ll rescue you and we’ll do 60 days of shooting and I’ll write a whole thing around what you have. I’ve got the secret.’ And it wasn’t the secret. That was hard… I started to drink too much. I was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, ‘This isn’t the life I want. My kids aren’t here. I’m miserable.'”

If Ben Affleck still felt that way, then DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn’s decision to recast Batman in the DCU wouldn’t sting so much. However, he doesn’t and it doesn’t. Ben Affleck recently raised eyebrows when he debunked Gunn’s claims that he wanted to direct a DCU movie for him.

But what about playing Batman once again? Ben Affleck’s happiness in portraying Batman in The Flash shone through in the interview. He stated:

“That movie’s good, that movie is really good, they made a good one. And it’s my best s— I’ve done as Batman, I’ve finally figured out how to play the guy. I was like, hold on, I know I quit and I know I came back but I got it now.”

The “I know I quit part” is quite telling. While he doesn’t specifically say he wishes to return once more, it’s easy to tell what he implies. YouTube personality Syl Abdul recently broke this down on Rogues Gallery.

In fact, Ben Affleck already proved he would like to continue as Batman. After all, he filmed another appearance in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Unfortunately, reports claim that those scenes were edited out.

Given that Gunn will search for a new Batman, Ben Affleck’s future with the character seems dependent on the #SellZSJLToNetflix movement. As naysayers continue to throw cold water on the campaign, the possibility of Netflix licensing and funding Zack Snyder’s Justice League 2 found admiration in the director himself. Snyder acknowledged in a YouTube get-together:

“The truth is, that would be amazing.”

If Snyder felt the idea was doomed to failure, he would’ve said so. After all, he has a contract with Netflix. He is well aware of how their business works. And Warner Bros., too, as he made several movies for them in the past. If Snyder truly wanted his followers to move on, he could’ve given the word. Certainly, his fans are willing to support his upcoming projects such as Rebel Moon.

However, like with Snyder, I get the sense there’s unfinished business on Ben Affleck’s mind. The anti-SnyderVerse crowd, who seek to control what Snyder is actually saying such as altering video to reflect the host’s pro-Gunn narrative.

Given the media bias towards Snyder, his followers have to sift through a substantial amount of Gunn-kissing propaganda. It’s obvious people are seeking access to Gunn. Well, that’s their preference. In my 36 years as a journalist, I’ve never been afraid of criticizing any form of media entity. Especially a filmmaker whose quality of work mainly remains with one studio. Ironically, it’s not the one he is now in charge of.

Whether or not Affleck is given the opportunity to be Batman again remains to be seen. There’s no doubt in my mind that, given the right situation, he’d suit up again.
