Warner Bros Discovery will not cancel the Blue Beetle film. This isn’t a rumor; in fact, it’s about as official as it gets. Director Angel Manuel Soto confirmed his movie’s status. Certainly, people involved in making DC-related projects seem to be on thin ice. Indeed, until they get their films or TV series actually released, there’s no guarantee.

There’s always the fear that Warner Bros. Discovery will hit the brakes. On the other hand, nobody mentions they were approved prior to the Warner-Discovery merger. After all, it’s not uncommon for the new regime to trash the previous executives’ ideas.

Granted, Batgirl‘s abrupt shelving turned on fire alarms.

Who can blame them? Tandem directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were already in the post-production of the movie. That was July and they even announced the movie would possibly hit theaters together with an HBO Max release. Then August came and everything stopped for Batgirl.

The decision disappointed some DC fans. But others felt relieved because they lost faith in Walter Hamada’s DC Films.

Thankfully, for Blue Beetle admirers, his movie is in the safe zone. WBD confirms the movie is safe, according to Soto. Nonetheless, his emotions turned into a seesaw. He admitted in an interview:

I’m not going to lie. There was concern, anger, fear at first. They told me not to worry, the film has their full support.

WBD CEO David Zaslav has truly put people behind productions related to DC franchises in a state of constant worry. Not even projects with the likes of J.J. Abrams were in the clear. In fact, only The Flash, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Black Adam has Zaslav’s confidence. Nonetheless, they’re not perfect. For example, The Flash is having massive reshoots.

Apparently, Blue Beetle is among those projects with definitive release dates. Currently, the movie has August 18, 2023, as its theatrical premiere. What’s even more promising is the fact that the film was originally for an HBO Max exclusive release. Warner Bros. Discovery upgraded its release from HBO to theaters. And that indicates the studio’s confidence in the upcoming project as well. They saw it as worthy of the silver screen.

Actor Xolo Maridueña is Jaime Reyes, who becomes Blue Beetle. He brings to life the young man who becomes implanted with a high-tech alienware called Khaji Da. From the pen of Gareth Dunnet Alcocer through Soto’s lens, Blue Beetle comes to the big screen next year for all audiences. The movie is in position to be the first Latino-led live action superhero movie from DC or even Marvel Studios.
