James Gunn Reveals When To Expect Initial Slate Of DCU Movies

Written By Kieran Bugg

James Gunn teased that the reveal of the DCU’s first slate of projects is soon. As in next month.

Warner Bros. Discovery appointed Gunn as co-head of DC Studios in November. Since then, he quickly faced significant backlash. No surprise there. After all, his decisions have already broken the hearts of many DC fans.

For example, he cancelled upcoming films like Wonder Woman 3 and Man Of Steel 2. It turns out that development on an unannounced Batman Beyond movie with Michael Keaton had even been scrapped.

Nonetheless, James Gunn also confirmed that Superman will still be a major player in his plan for the DCU. Moreover, he revealed that he’s already began writing a new Superman movie. Nonetheless, what should have been exciting news soon turned into something far more upsetting.

Tragically, he explained that the character won’t be portrayed by Henry Cavill anymore. Gunn revealed that this next entry in the Superman franchise will focus on a much younger Clark Kent. For many, this was the final nail in the coffin as Cavill just returned to the role in Black Adam.

There’s no doubt at this point that James Gunn and Peter Safran are planning a full on reboot for the DCU. This has left us all wondering when we can expect our first look at Gunn and Safran’s plans. It turns out it won’t be a long wait as Gunn dropped a second surprise along with his Superman film.

He revealed:

Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.

Responding to a question from a fan via Twitter, the Guardians of the Galaxy director gave us a vague idea.

The Twitter user asked Gunn:

How many projects will be announced in January, more or less?

His response was:

A few.

From the sounds of it, this could very well be a Phase One reveal of sorts for DC Studios. Furthermore, there’s been more than enough speculation regarding what this first wave of DCU projects could be.

Along with the already confirmed Superman solo film, there are a few that we’re still unaware of. What other DC characters will help launch this new universe? We’ll find out soon enough in the coming weeks.
