D23 Casts Doubt On Henry Cavill In The MCU

Rumors of Henry Cavill in the MCU crashed to the ground at D23 on Saturday. Once again expectations spread that Henry Cavill would attend a major comics event. However, reality does bite. In other words, Superman didn’t get the memo.

Henry Cavill was a no-show.

In July, DC fans waited for Cavill to appear at SDCC. After all, the reliable trade Deadline said he’d fly in. The Rock threw on his Black Adam outfit, but his buddy Cavill never showed up.

This time sports podcaster Emmet Kennedy tweeted that Cavill had signed with Marvel Studios.

Furthermore, he included Cavill on a list of actors who Marvel Studios will announce at D23. In addition, some of them might even attend.

Seven actors.

Nothing.

Granted, Kennedy is not a scooper. He likely received this information from someone he felt was a credible source. It happens. Unfortunately, many media outlets ran with it. Expectations rose in fandom.

SnyderVerse followers worried that Marvel Studios stole Cavill from DC Films.

The most believable part of Kennedy’s report was John Krasinski. Insiders keep repeating that Krasinski will star in The Fantastic Four. That’s the only one we didn’t ignore. Unfortunately, Marvel Studios president didn’t mention Krasinski or any cast member of The Fantastic Four at D23.

Krasinski played a variant of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Gossip floated that Loki‘s Season Two added Cavill as Hyperion.

Given that Hyperion was Marvel Comics’ evil version of Superman, Cavill’s casting as Hyperion made sense. Furthermore, Hyperion has ties to Kang the Conqueror. Kang is the Big Bad (or one of them) in the MCU going forward.

Still, why would Marvel Studios spend millions for Cavill on a small supporting role for Disney Plus’ Loki? Yes, they could add Cavill’s Hyperion in Avengers: Secret Wars later on. Nevertheless, it’d be too distracting. Hyperion would be too much like Superman.

I appeared on Syl Abdul’s YouTube channel numerous times, explaining my doubts until the end. Insiders couldn’t confirm it, and their silence was deafening.

The Loki panel came and went. No Cavill. Of course.

On the other hand, this doesn’t debunk Cavill as Hyperion.

It just makes us more skeptical. Nonetheless, Cavill returns as Superman in a post-credits scene in Black Adam in October.
