Blackpink Fans Excited Over Marvel Studios Rumor

Blackpink fans became excited when member Jennie Kim was rumored to be in talks to join an upcoming MCU project.

Without a doubt, Marvel Studios hiring one of Blackpink’s ladies would set the world on fire. Many describe Blackpink as the world’s most popular girl group. Certainly, Blackpink are the queens of K-pop. A crossover between Blackpink and the MCU would bring instant fame to any comics character.

The MCU has introduced a whole new generation of diverse superheroes to the franchise following the events of Avengers: Endgame.

A good few of which have debuted in various movies and Disney Plus series such as: Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi; Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel; Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez; and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop.

These recent signings reflect the real world outside the MCU, just as Marvel Comics co-creator/writer Stan Lee did decades ago with the Black Panther and the Falcon.

There’s certainly no shortage of superheroes and villains when it comes to the MCU. At San Diego Comic-Con last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed the whole Phase Five slate to the world.

Moreover, the legendary producer also gave us a surprising first glimpse of what’s in store for Phase Six. The Fantastic Four was confirmed to be the first entry to this upcoming sixth phase in the MCU’s ongoing Multiverse Saga. The reboot had already been teased by Feige at 2019’s SDCC and was officially announced on Disney Plus Day.

Only two other films were announced as part of Phase Six, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Multiple blank places were also shown in this presentation with no indication of what they could be. We’ll undoubtedly hear more about this when this year’s SDCC comes around.

Nonetheless, fans were still curious as to what other potential movies and series could take up these spaces. Plenty of rumors have been circulating the internet over the past year with some sounding more plausible than others. The most recent of which revolves around the girl group Blackpink lead vocalist Kim.

Kim apparently is in talks to star in one of Marvel Studios’ unannounced Disney Plus programs. She’s being eyed to portray the South Korean K-Pop idol Luna Snow. In other words, she’d fit right in with Blackpink. Snow, otherwise known as Seol Hee, made first appearance in the mobile video game Marvel: Future Fight.

Due to her popularity, she eventually made her comic-book debut in War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas No. 1 in 2019.

The character was an aspiring singer dancer trying to earn enough money to take care of her elderly grandmother. After Hee’s parents died, she was brought up by her grandmother. One day while performing at a Stark Industries event, A.I.M. suddenly begins attacking all those in attendance.

Hee fights back against A.I.M. while also attempting to protect the attendees which ultimately results in her capture. She’s placed in a hi-tech storage freezer but she manages to escape. During this, she’s exposed to the contents of an advanced cold-fusion energy experiment.

As a result, Hee develops the power to control the frozen elements which she uses to defeat A.I.M.’s soldiers. Dubbed Luna Snow by the press, Hee became an overnight sensation and turned into a pop star. She also continued to use her new found abilities to fight crime alongside other superheroes.

Already Kim’s agency has denied that the singer has been offered the role by Marvel Studios. However, this is often the case when anyone is whispered to be joining the MCU. Who’s telling the truth here? Hard to say. But we’re leaning on that negotiations are ongoing, and this was leaked to leverage a better deal.

The Disney Plus series in question will reportedly be Agents of Atlas. This team consists of Asian superheroes, two of whom have already appeared in the MCU. Shang-Chi and Agent Jimmy Woo. Other notable members includes Silk and Wave.

Wave is another character that’s recently cropped up in reports regarding an Agent of Atlas Disney Plus show. Apparently Marvel Studios is seeking out a Visayan actress for the character. Geekosity founder Mikey Sutton has championed for GMA Network actress Kate Valdez. Valdez landed the lead role in Dreamwalker, the live-action TV adaptation of Sutton’s horror comic for which he is Executive Producer. Sutton modeled Dreamwalker after Valdez.

Lincolnshire, England-based Kieran Bugg is the U.K. Editor of Geekosity. Founder Mikey Sutton discovered him in the private Geekosity Facebook page. Impressed by his knowledge of comic-book films, especially Spider-Man films and the MCU, Sutton made him among the site’s first writers, which eventually led to his promotion. Bugg also handles most of Geekosity’s Harry Potter and Doctor Who coverage.
