Zac Efron responded to those Wolverine casting rumors. As expected, Wolverine is once again the talk of the town following the announcement that Hugh Jackman would be returning. After all, everyone thought he’d hung up his adamantium claws for good after his 2017 swan song, Logan.

Nonetheless, Jackman has decided to reprise the role once again for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3. In addition to seeing these legendary characters together again, Deadpool 3 will also mark their first appearance in the MCU.

It would be an understatement to say that excitement for the upcoming sequel is through the roof right now. However, because of his age, fans don’t expect Jackman to stay in the role. They ponder who his replacement will be.

A few famous names have been floating around for a while now with the most prominent being Zac Efron. Moreover, online gossip had it Marvel Studios put out a casting call looking for a “Zac Efron type” to play Wolverine. While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Efron opened up about these rumors and possibly playing Wolverine.

When asked by Fallon if he’d heard of the supposed casting call, Efron replied:

Really? Wow, they could just call me.

With that hilarious response, it’s clear that actor wasn’t aware of it. Efron went on to praise Jackman for still being in the role after all these years. Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean that Efron isn’t opening to possibly becoming the MCU’s Wolverine in the future.

Furthermore, he also suggested talking to Jackman about possibly taking on the role. He continued:

I think Hugh’s still doing that pretty well, I got to give it to Hugh, I guess I had my foot in the door on that one, I should go talk to him.

Efron and Jackman became acquainted after they both starred in The Greatest Showman back in 2017.

On the other hand, fans have reservations given Efron is best known for his role in High School Musical as teen heartthrob, Troy Bolton.

Nevertheless, Zac Efron has since gone on to star in more serious roles showing his impressive range as an actor. Most notably with his chilling performance as real-life serial killer Ted Bundy in 2019’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

While he certainly has the talent to portray Wolverine he would still have huge shoes to fill succeeding Jackman.
