Star Wars TV series Obi-Wan Kenobi Could Have Second Season

Star Wars should rejoice as Disney Plus’ Obi-Wan Kenobi could return for a second season.

Star Wars fans may not always agree with each other on the franchise’s direction. Certainly, many Star Wars fans bashed The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Then again, George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels polarized an older generation’s followers, too.

Nevertheless, many are excited to see Ewan McGregor in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was originally intended to be a movie. However,  Solo: A Star Wars Story sadly failed to meet box-office expectations. Thus, the planned Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off has since evolved into a six-part TV show.

The anticipation is understandably high.

However, director Deborah Chow planned Obi-Wan Kenobi as a one-and-done limited series.

Chow confirmed that, while developing Obi-Wan Kenobi, the intention was always to write it as one full story.

During Entertainment Weekly’s cover story for the series, Chow revealed:

It was definitely conceived as a limited series, and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. The approach has always been that it is one full story.

Nonetheless, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy didn’t rule out the possibility of a second season completely.

In addition, she revealed that both the cast and crew behind this next installment are open to the idea of returning for more seasons. However, they are unsure if it would be necessary.

When asked about the possibility of a second season, she explained:

It’s certainly something we talk about, mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?

As much as we would all love to see much more of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, would it even work?

Where else could the story go without deviating from canon?

Maybe a solid idea for a second season will present itself one day, but for now it’s good to know that we’ll see McGregor as our favorite Jedi master at least one more time.
