Marvel Hints Netflix’ Daredevil Is Actually Canon

After Daredevil’s appearance in Disney Plus’ She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Marvel may have acknowledged his Netflix series as canon.

Fans of the Netflix show awaited the return of Daredevil for years now. They definitely cheered when Charlie Cox appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Daredevil was again a hot topic when Vincent D’Onofrio appeared in Hawkeye, returning as the Kingpin. However, even with all those appearances, Marvel Studios hasn’t assured fans that these are the same characters from the Netflix show. As far as fans go, some presumed that they may be variants.

After months of waiting, Cox returns as Matt Murdock and Daredevil. He shows up in the latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. It’s been a long time coming. Cox’s appearance as Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home was so short that it was basically a tease. But in She-Hulk, we see Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil. The two of them front and center.

Not long after his appearance in the show, Marvel.com published an article about Murdock in She-Hulk. It said:

Jennifer Walters has finally met her match in Matt Murdock. While the character was teased earlier in the season, he’s finally reintroduced to audiences in Episode 8 of Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk — and he’s very much the same Matt Murdock audiences have come to know and love over the years, once again played by Charlie Cox returning to the role.

Based on this, it seems like Murdock and Daredevil are the same as the one in Netflix. Is this a confirmation that Netflix’ Daredevil show is canon?

Back in December 2019, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige hinted that Marvel does not consider any show that wasn’t under his watch as canon. This included shows from ABC, Netflix and Hulu. For fans of any of those shows, that was heartbreaking. To learn that the studio retconned out those programs from MCU’s history felt like they wiped out a huge chunk of the story.

Even when the shows became available in Disney Plus last March, Marvel Studios still acknowledged not one of the shows being part of the MCU. But a few months ago, Marvel.com accidentally added detail in the Daredevil live-action show. The added detail? They added that it was canon. In mere hours of posting, they removed the information.

We have reported years ago that Marvel Studios is doing a soft reboot for the Netflix shows. In other words, Marvel Studios planned to include select characters into the MCU. Thus, they will continue the characters, but they most likely won’t acknowledge their past. As with the new developing Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again, we reported that this will give the character a fresh start. All things considered, in whatever version Daredevil enters the MCU, the comics will still be its main reference. Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock and Daredevil in the MCU is already one of the best news any comic-book fan can get.
