Cobalt Blue emerged in set photos from the CW’s The Flash. The exciting new exciting villain finally completes a thread stretching back to Season One. Before it lost its spark, The Flash was the premium standard for live-action superhero TV shows.

The first two seasons are rightfully considered to be the best of the Arrowverse as a whole. Moreover, the same could be said for Arrow’s first couple of seasons. Unfortunately, the series has since diminished in quality over the years in terms of its writing and CGI.

Nevertheless, the CW won’t give it an abrupt death. Rather, The Flash‘s final year will tie up loose ends and fulfill longtime fan speculation. In this case, the debut of Cobalt Blue.

Cobalt Blue arrives in the nick of time.

Despite its flaws, the heartfelt performances from The Flash‘s stellar cast was enough to keep audiences coming back for more. Grant Gustin’s portrayal of the Flash is often compared to the late, great Christopher Reeve as Superman.

After an astonishing nine season run, The Flash will finally reach the finish line in the coming weeks. The main villain for Season Nine, the Red Death. was unmasked in the most recent episode. This evil speedster was revealed to be a multiverse variant of Ryan Wilder, otherwise known as Batwoman (Javicia Leslie).

However, she won’t be the only rival to square off against Barry Allen in his final battle.

In addition to the Red Death, it was recently confirmed that actor Teddy Sears would be reprising his role as Zoom. Sears portrayed the terrifying character in Season Two as its main antagonist.

Furthermore, set photos from the last episode have revealed even more evil speedsters joining the fight. All of which were main villains of previous seasons. The photos show Reverse-Flash, Savitar, and Godspeed together alongside a new speedster with a familiar face.

For a while now it’s been confirmed that actor Rick Cosnett would be reprising his role as Eddie Thawne. The character met his demise in the Season One finale when he shot himself to erase the Reverse-Flash from existence.

Still, the Reverse-Flash would continue to cause trouble for Team Flash in follow-up seasons. meaning Thawne’s sacrifice was in vain. Over the years, many believed that Cosnett would eventually return to The Flash in some capacity.

Potentially as another member of the Flash’s rogues’ gallery, Cobalt Blue. Like Thawne, Cobalt Blue is an ancestor of Reverse-Flash who harbors a deep hatred for the Scarlet Speedster.

The speculations has now become reality as set photos show Cosnett fully suited up as Cobalt Blue. Having him return as a villain for the final season brings the whole program full circle.

Whether this is the original character or a variant from another Earth remains to be seen. Here is the official synopsis for Season Nine:
