Director Ryan Coogler denies Doctor Doom appears in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Producer Nate Moore and Coogler finally answered the rumors that have been going around during the sequel’s production. What Coogler said is something that actually gave us hope for the character’s future appearance.

It is truly going to happen. Most likely, even sooner than the Fantastic Four movie. But again, it could be just how we read his answers.

Phase Zero asked the question whether Doctor Doom was ever in their plan to be in the movie, to which Moore said:

It wasn’t, to be quite honest, although I get why. He’s such a great character and the world of Latveria is so fantastic and Ryan is a fan. But once we decided Namor was the antagonist, that was always going to be the focus.

Naturally, because Marvel has the treasure trove of comics as its blueprint of stories, fans see the possibility of Doctor Doom coming into a Black Panther movie. The Doomwar limited series showed Shuri as the new Black Panther. She struggles to keep Wakanda together despite the betrayals they go through. There, Doctor Doom was able to take over Wakanda and the X-Men.

Of course, this would have been too huge with too many newcomers into the MCU for just one movie. But fans had huge hopes for Doctor Doom. Answering the same question as the producer in another interview, Coogler responds:

In this movie? No. I try not to read too much. But yeah, no.

We do read the confirmation that Doctor Doom is not in the sequel. However, his answer beginning with “in this movie?” gave the indication that Doctor Doom is already on the board for another project in the MCU down the line. Whether or not Coogler will be handling that project is also another point to clarify.

Since the Fantastic Four is already in the works for the Multiverse Saga, they might really go for him then.

Discussions about Doctor Doom’s debut into the MCU continue and we do think it is healthy for the IP. If anything, it only indicates that the interest among the fans is still there. Definitely, people are looking forward to finally seeing this villain who somehow got to merge science and magic as his powers. Truly a formidable opponent in the Marvel universe with a human origin.
