Review Sentinel SV-Action Into the Spider-Verse Miles Morales GameStop Exclusive Action Figure

GameStop jumps into the exclusive action figure game with this phenomenal Sentinel SV-Action Into the Spider-Verse Miles Morales action figure.

I will confess that impatience won out as the figure kept being rolled back and I (thought) I’d cancelled my order.

Lo and behold, this was not one of the figures I cancelled and thus was surprised and very joyful when the email came through that my order had been fulfilled and Miles was on his way to my house.

If you read my Medicom Mafex review of the Into the Spider-Verse Miles figure, you’ll know the background story for this character.

I have decided to eschew retyping it in order to jump right into this figure… which is absolutely, positively astounding!

I only have two gripes with this figure which I’ll discuss at their appropriate time.

As for now though, let’s have some fun! Of course, we’ll look at the Triple A; Accessories, Appearance, Articulation and I can, without hesitation, say that this Miles figure is my absolute favorite when compared to his Marvel Legends and Medicom Mafex brothers!

I have always loved imported figures due to the sheer amount of accessories that come with them.

This, naturally, raises the prices of these figures. Let’s face it though, they’re worth it.

Sentinel’s Miles is no exception and the amount of neat stuff that he comes with is mind blowing.

Miles has: 3 head sculpts; one unmasked, one masked with wide eyes, one masked with expressive eyes, his jacket/hoodie combo with two detachable hoods; one up, one folded down, two jacket sleeved arms, an alternate shorts wearing waist/upper thigh set, 5 pairs of hands; 1 pair relaxed, 1 pair open, grasping, 1 pair wall crawling, 1 pair fisted, 1 pair item holding, 1 individual cell phone holding hand, and 1 hand attached to a can of spray paint.

He also has a pair of web thwipping hands, with the webs attached.

Miles also has a pair of sweet “name brand” kicks with detachable tied and untied shoelaces, 1 long swinging web, a cell phone, a set of headphones and a sledgehammer.

He also comes with a sweet display stand. The wide variety of items lends to some amazingly fun playability.

To be honest, there’s a part of me that wants to order a second, just to be able to pose him both in costume and with his jacket and shorts on.

However, I’m reasonably certain that Mrs. ToyBox, cool as she is, wouldn’t be overly fond of this idea, but I digress.

The method of swapping parts on this figure is remarkably simple and doesn’t cause any concern, the way the fragility of the Mafex figure does when using the soft goods.

I will admit that I do like the soft goods better, but this figure is far superior, in terms of sturdiness and accessories.

My favorite has to be the cell phone, which actually has a decal simulating the phone screen.

Unlike other cell phones which are all black, this one has some detail to it and looks really sharp in Miles’ hand.

The hand/spray paint combo is very nice and the can is a blank white, so the artists out there can customize their own.

The headphones look really nice when placed on the masked head, but sadly, don’t really fit very well on the unmasked.

The shoelaces are very small, so please be careful when handling them lest you drop one and lose it…(fortunately I found mine.) and the sledgehammer has a neat feature where the head of it comes off, so the handle can be slipped into one of Miles’s hands to be held. (Much like Mjolnir with the SHFiguarts Cap and Thor figures.)

I wish that he came with more than one long webline, but the two thwipping hands do pretty much make up for it.

What really impresses me here though are the jacketed arms and shorts wearing legs… the wrists and knee ports have small pegs in them, to keep the holes from shrinking over time, which allows you to make the hand and shin swaps easier.

In fact, when we discuss appearance, I’ll go into how to change out the figure from costume to civilian look. Does this figure rate an A for Accessories?

Oh heck yeahhhh! I truly believe the only figure I own with potentially more accessories is the SHF Battle on Titan Dr. Strange.

I am so impressed with this and am looking forward to the Peter B. Parker Spider-Man figure coming in November from Sentinel.

This Miles Morales figure looks absolutely choice! The costume design jumps right off the movie screen and looks incredible.

The minutely sculpted details in the costume are so intricately laid out that, when in hand, you cannot help but continually admire the figure.

The paint scheme is applied painstakingly and I was very, very pleased to not find a single defect in my paint applications.

Hands, face, masks, clothing, sneakers… all rendered with unbelievable care.

I looked and looked for any hint of imperfection in the paint appliques and couldn’t find a single one.

This is especially important when considering the value of the figure.

Each of his hands is painted in exacting detail and just needs to be seen to be appreciated.

I particularly enjoy the fact that Miles comes with two different masked heads, one of which has a great “expression” due to the sculpting of the eyes.

What impresses more though, is how well the unmasked head matches up with the movie version.

Sentinel did an outstanding job making this face look just like his counterpart.

Unfortunately, here’s where my first, major gripe comes in.

I cannot get this head onto the ball peg on the neck.

I’ve tried heating it up, I’ve reached out to other owners of this figure… Nobody has any suggestions.

However, I do think I have discovered the source of the problem.

On the masked heads, the ball peg port is situated with a square notch facing the front of the head.

On the unmasked head, this notch is facing toward the back.

I believe this inserted piece, being backwards, may be the cause of my inability to put the unmasked head on my figure.

This disappoints me immensely, but I’ll keep looking for a solution.

This also leads, indirectly, to my second gripe.

The neck looks to be too small when the masked heads are on the figure.

It’s as if his head is sitting far too low on the neck.

I have seen mods for this, so there is a fix out there.

Check out D-Amazing on YouTube for more information on the neck mod.

As mentioned earlier, switching out the pieces to this figure is very easy.

The arms are situated on a ball joint/socket and very easily pop off.

Once removed, you can put the jacket on the torso and then port the sleeved arms into their respective sockets.

The torso will pop off of the waist, allowing you to plug the shorts wearing waist in very easily.

The shins will slide out at the knee joints and easily port back in to both the shorts and costume wearing thighs.

I do recommend keeping the pegs to plug into the sleeves and thighs when not in use.

His costume shoes are pegged and port into the bottom of the shins and will slide out for easy exchange with his sneakers and all the hands port nicely into the ends of the forearms.

HOWEVER, there is no hinging with the wrists, which we’ll discuss under articulation.

I cannot get over how nice this figure looks and, as much as I like the Mafex soft goods, this figure really looks great when you have the jacket and shorts accessories in place.

Each time I pick this figure up, I like it more and more.

I am giving him an A+ for appearance!

Oh yeah, two outta three ain’t bad, but three for three is a perfect batting average and Sentinel SV’s Miles Morales takes a mighty swing at articulation… Does he crush it or will he fly out to center?

First and foremost the head articulation is tremendous on this figure.

Both masked head sculpts sit nicely on the ball peg.

They both turn, look up and down, and have great head “wobble.”

Additionally, his neck is also on a joint which allows it to tilt, increasing the head’s range of motion forward and back.

The shoulders are a dream to work with. The design, for easy arm swap gives the ball and socket joint a fantastic range of motion.

The shoulders will rotate easily, both arms raise out to the sides and because of the shoulder design, when coupled with the bicep swivel, allows for great cross body motion.

The elbows are double jointed and allow his forearms to bend in so deeply that his hands can touch his shoulders!

The only real drawback, motion-wise is the lack of hinging on the hands.

None of them hinge, but all will rotate.

Miles has a great upper torso joint which crunches forward, backward, pivots, and tilts sideways.

This lends itself to some amazing posability and when coupled with the lower abdomen joint gives Miles a terrific crunch.

The lower joint also pivots, but be careful not to crunch it too far forward, otherwise it will pop out.

Thankfully though, the pieces do go back together easily.

The legs can do relatively decent splits and the ball at the joint does allow for some upper thigh swivel.

The knees are on a double jointed, pinless hinge and bend in incredibly well, giving Miles heel to butt action!

The ankles and feet have terrific movement as well, with the ankles hinging, rotating and pivoting, and toe articulation.

Even the display stand has different options for placement of the arm, which has three points of articulation and the “claw” to hold Miles.

All I have to say here is… bottom of the ninth, bases loaded and the Sentinel SV-Action Miles Morales comes through in the clutch with a grand slam homerun!

I love this figure and can say, unabashedly, that this is better than any other Miles Morales figure I have.

Wow… just wow. If the Sentinel SV-Action Miles Morales is any indicator, I cannot wait to get my hands on the upcoming Peter B. Parker figure.

This figure is an absolute joy to have and looks spectacular on the display shelf!

As mentioned earlier, this figure is a GameStop exclusive and retails online for $87.99.

Miles is definitely worth it and even with the unmasked head issue mine has, I still give this figure 5 out of 5 toyboxes!

He is just that good.

Thanks for checking out the toybox and, until next time… Geek Out!
