Review: Marvel Legends Disney+ Wave 6 Inch Winter Soldier Action Figure

James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes returns with an awesome 6 inch Marvel Legend, based on his appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

*Possible Spoilers*

Thought killed in action during World War II, Bucky Barnes was in reality captured and re-programmed to become the dreaded assassin, The Winter Soldier.

Bucky faced off against his former best friend, Steve Rogers a.k.a the Star Spangled Avenger: Captain America, was eventually “cured” of the brainwashing that made him an assassin.

Bucky spent time recovering in Wakanda under the watchful, protective eye of T’Challa until coming back to action to battle the mad Titan, Thanos.

Bucky would end up being a victim of “the Blip” but would be saved when his companions manage to retrieve the Infinity Stones and set the universe back in order.

Bucky would then find himself spurred to battle once again, this time beside Sam Wilson, the high flying Falcon as together they faced a new legion of super soldiers, a new Captain America, and probably their toughest task yet… finding a way to get along with each other!

I cannot get over the sheer number of accessories the Winter Soldier comes with… a pair of fisted hands and a pair of gun holding hands…

Aaaannnddd nothing else.

Oh, wait, Bucky also comes with one wing section of the Build – A – Wings set.

The Marvel Legends Disney+ Winter Soldier looks absolutely incredible. The attention to detail on this figure is really quite astounding.

Has to be given that he only has one pair of alternate hands. Yes, it bothers me that much.

Anyhow, back to the appearance.

Starting at the bottom and working our way up, Bucky’s boots are a sleek, glossy black with some really nice detail sculpted in. His pants are more of a matte finish, which contrast very nicely with the boots.

Sadly though, the legs are almost a two-tone matte/semi-gloss.

The knees and thigh, below the upper thigh cut are more matte and though they carry the wrinkle sculpting fairly well to match the upper thighs, the attention to texture detail is sorely lacking, compared to the upper thighs which are more of a semi-gloss and have a greater level of sculpted deco to them.

As we get further up the figure, we come to the really special detail and paint decos on Bucky.

His jacket, bionic arm and head look spectacular. The jacket itself has red and black trim and three different shades of blue, which really pop and are applied so as to really highlight one another.

The sculpted detail on this is also mind boggling… the small wrinkles, texturing, zipper and even the open collar are exceedingly well done and just impress the heck out of me.

His bionic arm also falls into this mind blowing category too. The arm is gloss black with beautiful gold trim, but even better, the gold paint is applied to the sculpted detail on the arm.

His shoulder and forearm have etched lines in them, that the gold deco is applied in. At first, I thought it was just very well painted, but when I realized the arm had such intricate sculpting, I was even more enamored of the attention to detail.

Finally, looking at Bucky’s head, the photo-realistic face sculpt is on target and the paint detail from his eyes and lips to the five o’clock shadow is applied extremely well.

I am so pleased with how this turned out and am very impressed with the sculpting.

Even though the hair sculpt is designed to match his look from the show, I have to admit, when I look at it I start thinking “BOY BAND!!!” Still and away, with the exception of the differences in his legs, I really like how this figure looks. Hasbro got this right and dang, it looks awesome.

The Winter Soldier’s articulation should come as no surprise as he’s sporting the atypical Marvel Legend joint designs.

His head is on a ball peg, allowing him to look up and down, turn side to side, and give a little “attitude” head wobble.

The shoulders only rotate and allow for pretty solid “T” Posing, but there is no butterfly joint on this figure.

Bucky does have the usual upper bicep swivel, pinless tech double jointed elbows which bend in far enough to allow Bucky to punch himself in the chin, if you so desire and the wrists swivel and hinge on all four hands.

He has an ab crunch which bends forward and backward quite far and a waist swivel which functions adequately.

Bucky can do some pretty awesome splits which make for great side-kick poses.

He has an upper thigh cut, double jointed, pinless tech knees, which allow him to kick his own butt, and ankles with solid up and down hinging as well as terrific pivot. Bucky’s articulation works well and thankfully, when you swipe a gun from any of the other Legends figures, he looks even better in a dynamic action pose.

The more that I look at and play around with this figure, the more I like him.

Yes, his accessories are sorely lacking, but the appearance and articulation are on point.

Bucky has quietly crept up into my top two favorite figures out of this wave and at the reasonable price point of $20, the Winter Soldier merits 4.25 Toyboxes out of 5.
