While a direct sequel is the one in popular demand, a new report reveals that’s not all they have in mind.
It’s being reported that Warner Bros. is looking at an all-female Mortal Kombat spin-off film.

In addition, a spin-off like that is bound to attract even more people who are not fans of the fighting game.
Director Simon McQuoid made it clear he wants to make female characters more prominent in the films.
Sonya Blade, one of the most popular female characters, is set to be featured more.
This could lead female fighters to have more focus on both their story and skill in future installments.
It could also lead to solo films.
Keep in mind, that while reception of the newly released film has not been stellar, plenty of ideas are flying around right now because of its fresh success.
The popularity cannot be denied. People in power are bound to grab this opportunity and make fans satisfied.
The MK-verse might just join the DCEU in WB’s roster of top franchises pretty soon.
After all, Mortal Kombat has showed off a compelling lore in the games, leaving directors and writers lots of material to scavenge for film adaptations.
With the right people in cast and crew, it’s very possible to pull off a great story on screen.
That said, this all-female spin off is just one of many possibilities. There are numerous female MK characters to introduce.
