Galactus’ herald, the Silver Surfer, will headline his own live-action Disney Plus special. According to The Cosmic Circus, the program will air a few months before The Fantastic Four‘s February 2025 theatrical release.

In February 2020, I initially scooped that Marvel Studios was planning a Silver Surfer film. My sources told me that the Silver Surfer movie would come out prior to The Fantastic Four reboot. In other words, that part of my early report hasn’t changed.

However, on April 22, Lords of the Longbox host Tim Vo revealed that Marvel Studios switched direction. Specifically, Marvel Studios selected a Disney Plus series for the Silver Surfer instead. Nevertheless, that was prior to Disney Plus cutting down on multi-episode programs. Instead, there will mostly be one-shot specials.

The Werewolf by Night special acquired widespread praise from critics and audiences this month. Thus, the format worked. In fact, it reminded older fans of ’70s anthology comic books like Marvel Premiere. Marvel Premiere introduced new characters and concepts that weren’t ready for their own series.

The Cosmic Circus explained that the Silver Surfer will have his own special. In addition, it will take place in the deep reaches of space:

Per our sources, the Silver Surfer Special Presentation will have a similar style to Werewolf by Night. The project will feature Norrin Radd as Galactus’ Herald out in the far corners of the cosmos. Radd will not be on Earth during his special presentation and will also not interact with any cosmic characters already established in the MCU.

Moreover, Netflix’ The Sandman provides inspiration for the program.

This isn’t the first attempt at the Silver Surfer on TV. He guests starred in ABC’s Fantastic Four cartoon in the late ’60s. In 1998, Fox Kids Network produced 13 episodes of Silver Surfer: The Animated Series. Unfortunately, this smart adaptation ended after only one season. Reportedly, a legal dispute between Marvel and Saban Entertainment killed it. Really sad.

Many feel that the Silver Surfer was among the redeeming qualities of Fox’s Fantastic Four films. Unlike Galactus, he looked and sounded like the Silver Surfer.
