Cobra Kai‘s creators will give John Hughes’ ’80s teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off a spin-off film. Decades later will Paramount show what the valets did with the Ferrari parallel to the movie’s events.

The late John Hughes wrote and directed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It starred Matthew Broderick as Bueller, Alan Ruck is his best friend Cameron Frye, and Mia Sara as his girlfriend Sloane Peterson. It was 1986 when the world didn’t have the Internet and today’s technology. Bueller had the personal mission of making the best day ever with his pals. Bueller maneuvered ways to get around the school system and dodged the principal’s pursuit.

The trio defied rules, dined in a high-end restaurant, attended a street party and managed not to get expulsion.

In addition, they drove, used valet, parked, but then wrecked a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. The car belonged to Cameron’s distant father.

Everything would have been perfect. They would have returned the car unscathed until they saw the beloved car’s odometer. Thus, they tried to ‘rewind’ the outrageous reading but failed. This freaked Cameron out, as he dreaded what his father would say or do to him. However, after a fit of rage, he ended up totaling the car with a drop from a considerable height.

It was an act of defiance that made the film resonate with troubled adolescents. Hughes, also responsible for Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, spoke to suburban youths everywhere.

Now, 36 years later, Paramount Pictures intends to show what adventures that Ferrari had gone through prior to its destruction. The spin-off Sam and Victor’s Day Off names the valets that Richard Edson and the late Larry “Flash” Jenkins portrayed. While the audience merely speculated about their activities, an epic shot of them driving was the only clue.

Apparently, the world will speculate not for long.

In fact, the studio is taking the creators of the Cobra Kai series, Jon Hurwtiz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald on board for the project. At the moment, production still has to find a director. Furthermore, Bill Posley, who is also from Cobra Kai, will write the screenplay.

In 1990, a Ferris Bueller series aired on NBC starring Charlie Schlatter as Bueller and then-unknown Jennifer Aniston as his sister Jeannie. It failed, lasting only 13 episodes. Hughes was not involved.

The Cobra Kai crew performed wonders with The Karate Kid franchise. Specifically, they continued The Karate Kid with respect and intelligence. They managed to reel in old fans while creating new young ones. Many consider Cobra Kai the perfect model in continuing classic titles. Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick seems to have learned from it.

Hughes died on August 5, 2009 of a heart attack. He was only 59. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off became a large part of his legacy. Beneath the humor, it’s an anti-suicide movie.

On a personal note, Geekosity founder Mikey Sutton reviewed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the Philippines’ Movie Flash magazine in 1987. It was his published debut.
