Tom Holland Lost Star Wars Role In A Hilarious Way

Tom Holland revealed hilarious details about his disastrous Star Wars audition. Apparently, Tom Holland has a real Star Wars connection. It’s not just The Empire Strikes Back references in Captain America: Civil War.

And it’s just as funny.

Tom Holland has made quite a name for himself this past decade, starting with 2012’s The Impossible. That film was based on a true story set during the events of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. Tom Holland starred in the emotional movie alongside big names stars like Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

Years later, he would eventually take Hollywood by storm for his fresh and lovable portrayal of Spider-Man in the MCU. Tom Holland was still a relatively unknown actor at the time of his casting. Nevertheless, he managed to blow away producers with his acrobatic skills and love for the classic character.

Debuting in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland’s take on Spider-Man was an instant standout among fans and critics alike. From there his career would grow faster than anyone would’ve guessed. He eventually moved on to be cast in multiple movies from several major Hollywood studios. Including two major animated films from both Pixar and Blue Sky Studios, Onward and Spies in Disguise.

However, Tom Holland missed an opportunity. Blame it on Peter Parker’s bad luck. He could’ve landed in another multi-billion franchise owned by Disney. Perhaps another iconic role.

Before being cast as Marvel’s most beloved superhero, Tom Holland originally auditioned for the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Had things have played out differently, he would’ve portrayed Finn in J.J. Abrams’ continuation of George Lucas’ epic adventure.

Auditions for the first entry Star Wars: The Force Awakens were held in the United Kingdom in late 2013. And Tom Holland lost the role went to John Boyega, another British actor who went on to make a big splash in Hollywood.

On the other hand, this was probably for the best as we’d likely have never seen Tom Holland suit up as the MCU’s web-head. In addition, the last two installments of the sequels polarized fans. In fact, diminished box-office returns had critics declaring the death of Star Wars. That is, until Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian brought back the Force it once had. Recently, looking back on his Star Wars audition, Holland recalls the overall experience. In an interview with Backstage, the MCU star revealed:
“I remember my audition for Star Wars, I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega’s role, I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone.”

He further explained what exactly went wrong with his last audition. In the end it came down to Holland being unable to contain his laughter at his co-star. It turns out though that his co-star wasn’t a person.

Playing opposite Holland during his audition was actually a drone which was being voiced by a woman. He recalled:

“So I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.’ I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called. Yeah, I obviously didn’t get the part. That wasn’t my best moment.”

In all honesty we can’t blame him.It would be hard to stay in character in the situation he described. Despite it all, things definitely worked out for the best.

No can imagine Finn being portrayed by anyone other than Boyega. The same can more than be said for Holland as Spider-Man.
