Rumors of Tom Cruise‘s Iron Man in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness grow. There’s no stopping them. At this point, it’s becoming likely.
Recently, a leaked photo of Tom Cruise in a motion-capture suit circulated online.
Whether the photo is fake or not remains to be seen.
It could be real.
After all, on-set pictures of Charlie Cox, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire were authentic.
At the time, there was skepticism as well.
There is historical precedence for the Tom Cruise rumors.
Indeed, Marvel Studios initially wanted Tom Cruise for Iron Man.
Financially, it made sense.
Hollywood didn’t consider Robert Downey Jr. a box-office draw then.

That actually happened after Iron Man in 2008.
Marvel Studios hit the jackpot with Downey.
But prior to that, Tom Cruise was their man.
However, Tom Cruise didn’t feel the same way.
Marvel Studios was new, unproven.
Thus, Tom Cruise didn’t have faith in what they proposed.
He explained:
It’s not happening. Not with me, no … They came to me at a certain point and, when I do something, I wanna do it right. If I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it’s gonna be something special. And as it was lining up, it just didn’t feel to me like it was gonna work. I need to be able to make decisions and make the film as great as it can be, and it just didn’t go down that road that way.
Obviously, Marvel Studios has no regrets.
Downey helped unleash a multi-billion franchise.
Moreover, his Iron Man is iconic.
Still, Tom Cruise remains a fascinating What If…?
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Tom Cruise apparently plays a Tony Stark.
But he won’t have much screen time.
Given that, don’t expect too much of him in armor.
Nevertheless, Tom Cruise’s Iron Man will stun audiences.
Even people who don’t know the real context will be thrilled.
Decades later, Tom Cruise remains a huge star.
Going forward, Tom Cruise is not the new Iron Man.
Certainly, this isn’t permanent.
He is Stark from another universe.
What’s intriguing is if he will be good or evil.
In the multiverse, anything is possible.
