The Russo Brothers Want To Direct For James Gunn’s DCU

The Russo Brothers have revealed that they want to direct a movie for James Gunn’s DCU.

Since the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the Russo Brothers instantly became high profile Hollywood directors. It’s no surprise that Marvel Studios rehired them to helm the next sequel, Captain America: Civil War.

Moreover, they would become even more sought after following the respective releases of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Both of which were also directed by the duo and would go on to earn over $2 billion worldwide.

Furthermore, the Russo Brothers have both expressed interest in returning to direct more MCU movies. Particularly Avengers: Secret Wars.

Nonetheless, it’s looking like Marvel Studios is looking for someone new to helm the upcoming team-up movie. However that doesn’t mean that they won’t return to the superhero genre at some point.

In addition to being open to returning to the MCU, the Russo Brothers have expressed interest in joining DC Studios. Whilst promoting their new Amazon Prime series Citadel, Joe and Anthony Russo revealed their enthusiasm.

When asked about DC during an interview with ComicBook.com‘s Chris Killian, Anthony started off by saying:

“We don’t get asked a lot about DC characters.”

To which Joe responded with:

“Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer, we love him to death. We love the direction he’s going to take that world in. You know he’s gonna be inventive with it. And favorite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three — were Spider-Man. X-Men and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that’s an obvious answer.”

Anthony then wrapped up their answer explaining:

“But, you know, it’s hard not to answer that, here’s how you know we haven’t actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favorite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it’s been well explored.”

Having the Russo Brothers tackle a DC property would be an opportunity that’s too good to pass up. Especially given how well they’ve handled certain Marvel characters over the years.
