Karl Urban may have the opportunity to nab his second Marvel role; he is apparently on Sony’s wish list to play Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter in an upcoming film.
In 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, Karl Urban played Skurge, otherwise known as the Executioner.
However, Skurge died in the film, thus quickly ending Urban’s adventures in the MCU.
It may not be his last.
But when Keanu Reeves’ rumored casting as Kraven crashed and burned; he reportedly turned it down.
After that, many people began to fan-cast Karl Urban as the villainous big-game hunter.
It’s easy to see why.
Not only does the bearded Karl Urban resemble Kraven, but he has the charisma and boisterous energy to pull him off.
Certainly, Karl Urban has the most impressive of genre credentials.
From The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers to Judge Dredd and, most recently, the Amazon smash The Boys, Karl Urban is continuously involved in science-fiction and comics properties.
Writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko created Kraven for The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in 1964.
Although he has never appeared in live action, Kraven is among Marvel Comics’ most popular bad guys.
Sony Wants Karl Urban for Spider-Man Villain Kraven
In order to prove himself to be the greatest hunter in the world, Kraven has often targeted Spider-Man.
The dark 1987 storyline “Kraven’s Last Hunt” is a classic that both Marvel Studios and Sony (which Spider-Man’s film rights) have wanted to adapt for a theatrical movie.
In 2018, Sony announced they were going to produce a Kraven the Hunter film which will be inspired by “Kraven’s Last Hunt.”
Whether Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is going to be involved is still unknown.
Having a likable, familiar actor such as Karl Urban in the title role would certainly reel in the general public not familiar with Kraven.
Sources tell me that Sony has had their eye on him for the role before recent social-media campaigning.
