A new leak revealed the name for Blizzard’s latest expansion for their popular MMORPG World of Warcraft as Dragonflight.
The original World of Warcraft came out in 2004.
The massive multiplayer online role playing game is based on the Warcraft series of real time strategy games made by Blizzard Entertainment. The MMORPG takes place after the events of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (2003), the expansion of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002). The online game was hugely successful. In fact, it ranks as among the longest-running most popular games with a subscription model. By 2017, it had grossed $9.23 billion in revenue.
In other words, World of Warcraft is unstoppable. Undoubtedly, World of Warcraft is a well-oiled machine.

Blizzard has released eight expansions for their MMORPG. The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), Warlords of Draenor (2014), Legion (2016), Battle for Azeroth (2018), and Shadowlands (2020).
WowHead reports the latest expansion is Dragonflight and has very little details as of now. They have data mined the official site of World of Warcraft and discovered a non-accessible section called Dragonflight. It also appears to have sections called “Base,” “Heroic” and “Epic” as pre-purchase options for the expansion.
But diving into World of Warcraft lore, Dragonflight represents types of dragons. There are five primary dragonflights. Red is granted dominion over life. Green has dominion over the Emerald Dream. Bronze has dominion over time. Blue has dominion over magic. While Black has dominion over the earth.
Beyond the primary, there is also the Lesser Dragonflight. Chromatic dragonflight, Infinite dragonflight, Netherwing dragonflight, Nightmare dragonflight, Plagued dragonflight, Storm dragonflight and Twilight dragonflight.
Like previous expansions such as Wrath of the Lich King, the Blue Dragonflight declared war on magic. Cataclysm, on the other hand, greatly changed the environment of Azeroth and allowed mounted, flight controlled by players that eventually became “Old World.” Its final boss is the dragon Deathwing, who was formerly the head of the Black Dragonflight.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, as well as past expansions have taken players to new worlds, purpose and time. The upcoming Dragonflight expansion has to top these expectations at the very least. Some are speculating that the latest expansion will make use of a system similar to that of the Covenant. That system requires certain achievements before players gain access. If Dragonflight is a mount system, certain specified mounts will enable abilities and skills for the players to take advantage of.
Without delving much into detail, one has to have ample invested time and understanding to take advantage of the play. The story behind this expansion is still subject to speculation. Considering Shadowlands covered death or the afterlife, what else could they have up their sleeves? If one is to think about stories that go beyond death, it can only be about legends and myths. Could the next stories be in line with a new set of legends in the narrative?
