James Gunn and his upcoming DCU reboot is reportedly taking the blame for Shazam! Fury Of The Gods’ failure.

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods lasted only 21 days in cinemas before being released on digital. Moreover, the movie has grossed a global total of $132.1 million against a $125 million budget.

Yikes.

In other words, the sequel bombed and it bombed hard. In addition, the reviews for the DC sequel didn’t fare any better either.

Shazam! Fury Of Gods holds a dismal score of 49% Rotten Tomatoes whereas its predecessor stands tall at 90%. A significant drop in quality.

Many are pointing the finger at Warner Bros. Discovery for the movie’s disappointing critical and financial reception. Nonetheless, it seems like the studio is trying to shift the blame onto a scapegoat.

What a surprise as that’s exactly what they did with Zack Snyder following the release of Josstice League. According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. Discovery believes that James Gunn’s recent DCU: Chapter One slate announcement was responsible.

Real classy.

This does make sense however as James Gunn’s announcement left a negative impression on fans. It was believed that Shazam! Fury Of The Gods and all upcoming projects not under James Gunn were now irrelevant.

Whilst this is most likely a major factor into the movie’s underwhelming performance, there are other reasons. Such as the controversial firing of Henry Cavill as Superman after his long awaited return in Black Adam’s post-credit scene.

Fans were promised that he’d be back for multiple DC projects following this exciting tease. Nevertheless, this promise was quickly broken by the studio after they once again toyed with our emotions.

Furthermore, star Zachary Levi has recently become somewhat of a controversial figure on social media. The actor took a stand against Pfizer and their COVID-19 vaccine via his social media.

Zachary Levi basically flushed his career as well as the Shazam! sequel down the toilet. Anticipation for DC’s future is once again at an all-time low.

It looks like only Ezra Miller’s The Flash can save them from what’s looking to be their worst year ever.

Oh boy.
