James Cameron is possibly about to create another movie blockbuster, with Disney’s CEO Bob Iger pursuing Cameron to take the helm for Alita: Battle Angel 2.

The popular anime turned live action movie Alita: Battle Angel turned out to be a major hit under the helm of Robert Rodriguez, who is known for his works like Spy Kids, Machete, Sin City, and Once Upon a Time In Mexico, to name a few. But Disney’s CEO wants to up the ante and he’s got his eye on James Cameron to work on the sequel.

Sources confirmed that Bob Iger, the esteemed CEO of Disney, is rooting for legendary filmmaker James Cameron. The motive behind Iger’s endorsement lies in Cameron’s unparalleled track record, contrasting with the hit-or-miss nature of fellow director Robert Rodriguez’s filmography.

World renowned director James Cameron is widely recognized for his groundbreaking work on iconic films such as “Avatar” and “Titanic,” which became synonymous with cinematic excellence. His unwavering commitment to delivering immersive storytelling experiences, coupled with his masterful command of cutting-edge technology, has catapulted Cameron to the pinnacle of filmmaking.

While on the other hand, Director Robert Rodriguez, known for his dynamic and often experimental style, has had a more unpredictable trajectory. His unconventional approach has yielded celebrated works like “Sin City” and “Desperado,” his filmography has also featured projects that failed to resonate with audiences on a similar scale.

This inconsistency has led Igerthe idea to choose Cameron over Rodriguez to deliver the high-quality cinematic experiences that Alita: Battle Angel 2 needed. Another crucial factor at play is the significant impact James Cameron’s involvement can have on a film’s success. With Cameron’s renowned name attached, the project is perceived to have a higher likelihood of achieving blockbuster status and resonating with audiences on a grand scale.

Contrary to concerns about Rodriguez’s consistency, it should be noted that he has an established working relationship with Disney, having directed episodes for popular Disney Plus series such as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

In other news, Bob Iger is drawing closer to his retirement, but he is still committed to enhancing Disney’s general state before handing the reins over to the next CEO. Iger also wants to keep the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanding and bring Star Wars back into the big screen.

Whilst James Cameron is still in the talks with Disney as the director for Alita: Battle Angel 2, Cameron is still pursuing to make a film adaptation of Last Train of Hiroshima written by Charles R. Pellegrino since the book came out in 2010. Cameron also told the Los Angeles Times that he wanted to start working on 2 Avatar sequels.

On May 12, 2023, Robert Rodriguez’s film Hypnotic had its theatrical release in the United States. Starring Ben Affleck, Alice Braga, J. D. Pardo, Hala Finley, Dayo Okeniyi, Jeff Fahey, Jackie Earle Haley, and William Fichtner, the movie generated considerable anticipation among fans, partly due to its co-writer Max Borenstein’s involvement in the successful film Godzilla vs Kong. However, despite expectations, the film experienced a disappointing opening weekend at the box office, marking one of Ben Affleck’s worst flop in his career.

Meanwhile, fans eagerly await confirmation on who will helm the highly anticipated Alita: Battle Angel 2. Will Robert Rodriguez continue as the director or will James Cameron take over the reins? As the decision remains unconfirmed, anticipation builds for the future of the beloved franchise.
