Fantastic Four 1960’s Setting Reportedly Confirmed

Fantastic Four reboot’s rumoured 1960’s setting has reportedly been confirmed following a new hire.

After ten years since their last cinematic outing, the Fantastic Four will finally return to theatres in 2025. Moreover, the beloved team of heroes will finally make their long awaited MCU debut.

Since it’s official announcement, there’s been no end to the rumours surrounding who could star in the upcoming reboot. Recent reports have claimed that big names like Margot Robbie and Adam Driver are currently in negotiations to star.

In addition, there were downright ludicrous reports that Mila Kunis would be portraying The Thing but thankfully these were debunked. By the actress herself no less.

With that being said, it’s looking like we’re still months away from an official cast announcement. Nonetheless, we’re still getting news of who’s being hired to help bring the MCU’s Fantastic Four to life.

The latest addition to the movie’s growing crew is Dante Ferretti, who’s been brought on as production designer. Ferretti is known for his work on multiple high profile films including:

Interview with the Vampire, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Shutter Island, Hugo, and Cinderella.

Furthermore, he’s also won three Academy awards and three BAFTA awards during his career. What’s significant about his hiring is that he’s production design is mostly associated with period movies.

There’s been strong rumours over the years suggesting that Fantastic Four could take place in the 1960’s. Dante Ferretti’s involvement might have just confirmed this.

Ant-Man trilogy director Peyton Reed originally pitched a Fantastic Four movie to 20th Century Fox in the early 2000’s. He intended to have the story set in the 1960’s but this was rejected in favour of Tim Story’s pitch.

When the cinematic rights returned to Marvel Studios, Peyton Reed reportedly pitched his idea again. Sounds like Marvel could be going with it or at least taking inspiration from his original vision.

It’s also worth noting a brief exchange between Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and John Krasinski’s Mr. Fantastic. Hearing the name Fantastic Four, Strange asked if they were the ones who topped the charts back in the 60’s.

After 20th Century Fox and Josh Trank tanked the franchise, Marvel Studios can’t afford to screw this reboot up.
