Donald Glover Cameo In Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Confirmed As MCU Connection

Donald Glover’s cameo as The Prowler in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has been confirmed as a connection to the MCU. As we all expected, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse was jam-packed with cameos and references to Spidey’s 60-year long history.

Various incarnations of the web-slinger across all forms of media both old and new made their presence known. Moreover, certain villains and allies from the Spider-Man mythos also made brief appearances in the sequel.

The most notable being a live-action cameo from Donald Glover who previously appeared as Aaron Davis in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the comics, Davis is better known by his vigilante persona, The Prowler.

A moniker that was originally used by Hobie Brown who now more famously goes by Spider-Punk. Much like Black Cat, The Prowler is a master thief who more than often clashes with Spider-Man when committing heists.

However he has been known to team up with Spidey on certain occasions making him more of an anti-hero. In addition, he’s also the paternal uncle of another version of Spider-Man, Miles Morales.

Spider-Man: Homecoming saw Donald Glover portray Aaron Davis as a petty criminal using The Prowler alias as a street name. He’s first seen attempting to buy weapons off of The Vulture’s (Michael Keaton) crew in an exchange.

Furthermore, a deleted scene from the movie confirms that Miles Morales also exists in the MCU. The scene shows Davis making a phone call to his nephew following his hilarious encounter with Spider-Man.

He lets Miles know that he was going to be late after being webbed to his own car. This potentially sets up Miles Morales’ eventual MCU debut.

Since then, Donald Glover has yet to reprise his role in the MCU leaving many questioning if he ever will. However in a surprise twist, the actor made a brief live-action cameo as The Prowler in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

While this was exciting to see, there was no way telling if this was the same character from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Nonetheless, recently released concept art has confirmed which universe this variant of Prowler comes from.

The original concept for Glover’s Prowler costume which has made it’s way online is titled: MCU Prowler. So this more or less confirms that the MCU’s Aaron Davis was who we saw in the Spider Society’s custody.

Plus in the time since we last saw him he’s fully embraced his Prowler persona. We’ll more than likely see him cross paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man again in his next MCU trilogy.
