Clark Gregg has teased a potential return to the MCU as Agent Coulson.
In addition to adapting characters from the comics, the MCU is also responsible for the creation of several original characters. On such example is Clark Gregg’s legendary S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Phil Coulson.
First appearing as a supporting character in 2008’s Iron Man, Coulson would become a recurring character throughout the MCU’s first phase. Becoming an instant fan favourite, Clark Gregg would go on to portray Coulson in various Marvel cartoons and video games.
Moreover, the character’s popularity in the movies eventually led to him being introduced in the comics. Unfortunately his time in the movies was short lived after he was cut down by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in 2012’s The Avengers.

Nonetheless, Gregg would later reprise the role in the hit TV spin-off, Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The show revealed that Coulson’s apparent demise was fabricated in order to motivate The Avengers into working together.
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. ran for an impressive seven seasons before finally concluding in 2020. Furthermore, it’s still considered to be one of Marvel’s best ever TV shows.
During this time, Clark Gregg would also appear in a supporting role as Phil Coulson in 2018’s Captain Marvel. Taking place in the 1990’s, we got to see younger versions of both Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
Since Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. aired it’s final episode, fans are wondering when or even if we’ll see Coulson again. Recently Clark Gregg attended Motor City Comic Con in Novi, Michigan.
Whilst there, the actor meeted and greeted Marvel fans from across the country. The Cosmic Circus writer Uday Kataria was also in attendance and was lucky enough to meet Gregg.
During this meeting, Kataria had an interview with the actor and asked him multiple questions about the MCU. One of which was about a potential return as Coulson in a future film or TV series.

Kataria asked:
“Is there a chance that we see you reprise the role of Phil Coulson?”
To which Gregg replied:
“There’s just always a chance that- I mean, you know, it’s a multiverse.”
So it’s clear that the book hasn’t completely closed on Coulson’s story just yet. It’s just a matter of when and where we’ll see him show up again.
