Chris Evans Reveals His Thoughts On Returning To The MCU

Chris Evans has revealed his thoughts on possibly returning as Captain America in the MCU’s future. When it was announced that Chris Evans was cast as Captain America in the MCU, reactions were significantly divided.

After all, he’d already portrayed The Human Torch in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies from the mid-2000’s. Nonetheless, Chris Evans proved beyond any doubt that he was the best choice for the role.

When he passed on the vibranium shield to Anthony Mackie, it was hard to imagine the MCU without him. However, Mackie’s Sam Wilson has proved himself more than a worthy successor to the Captain America moniker.

His character arc in Marvel’s The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Disney Plus series made sure of that. Moreover, after embracing his new role Anthony Mackie will star as Captain America in his own solo movie.

While everyone is excited for this, many still miss Chris Evan’s presence in the franchise. The beloved actor recently attended the C2E2 Expo in Chicago where he greeted and took pictures with fans.

Furthermore, he also addressed the possibility of reprising his role as Steve Rogers in a future MCU instalment. When asked about potentially returning, Chris Evans’ replied:

“It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply, he means so much to me, and I really do. I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it. I’d become, you know, it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way, it really landed so well. As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people. It doesn’t quite feel right right now.”

In addition to portraying Steve Rogers and Johnny Storm, Chris Evans has also appeared in various other comic book movies. For instance, he’s had roles in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and the 2007 CGI Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

Evans didn’t plan to appear in multiple comic book movies but in doing so, he became a fan. He explained:

“It wasn’t a plan, I wasn’t like ‘comics!’… but the more you make those movies, the more research you do prior to the film, the more you realize you become a fan, you know, and you start to see with the fancy and these amazing characters and great stories and there’s a starting point for the, you know, films… you have all these creative people coming together, trying to operate on the same intangible idea. Comics give everyone a common ground to kind of say ‘we’ve all seen this’. We all know how we felt when we read it, when we saw it. And that’s the starting point. And that’s really, it’s an incredible help when you make it a film, not to mention the incredible built-in fan base.”

Out of all his roles in pop culture films, Captain America will always be his most famous. While he sounds hesitant to return as the character, it’s likely he’ll appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
