Channing Tatum may finally get his chance to play Gambit as a recent report has suggested that the actor will portray the Ragin’ Cajun in Deadpool 3. Back before Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, there were plans for several more X-Men films to further expand the latter studio’s own Marvel universe.
Franchise producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that talks of theatrical adaptations for both X-Force and Alpha Flight were happening. Moreover, sequels to Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants were in early development prior to acquisition along with spin-off films for certain fan favourite X-Men characters such as:
Kitty Pryde, X-23, Beast and Gambit.

In addition, a solo film for the obscure villain Multiple Man with James Franco attached to star was also in the works for some bizarre reason. Initial reactions to these given 20th Century Fox’s hit-or-miss track record with their Marvel movies.
Thankfully none of these movies would ever saw the light of day once the cinematic rights to the X-Men made their way back to Marvel Studios. Nonetheless, there was some excitement for the Gambit solo film as the character is considered to be one of the most popular members of the iconic team.
Actor Channing Tatum who’s a well-known fan of Gambit was set to portray as the cunning card-throwing Mutant. Furthermore, he was also considered for the role in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
However, Gambit’s role in the former was cut from the final script and the character was instead portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in the latter. If anything, Channing Tatum really dodged a bullet or in this case, a kinetically charged playing card there.
When it was announced that he would finally portray the character in his own solo film, it wasn’t long before the movie found itself in development hell. This inevitably led to Gambit being cancelled by Disney and Marvel Studios meaning that Channing Tatum will likely never play the Cajun superhero.
Not so fast. A recent report from online scooper @CanWeGetSomeToast, has claimed that the actor will appear as Gambit in Deadpool 3.

Not only that, but he’ll also don the character’s signature trench coat and purple armour from the comics. With Hugh Jackman wearing Wolverine’s classic yellow and blue comic book suit in the upcoming sequel, this sounds about right.
Other actors who previously starred in Fox’s X-Men films are also rumoured to return as their respective characters in Deadpool 3 and will also be seen wearing their classic costumes. Seeing as his solo film will never happen, this would be the best way to see Channing Tatum finally achieve his dream of playing Gambit.
