Blue Beetle Director Teases Superman And DCU Connections

Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto has recently teased a possible Superman cameo, connecting it to James Gunn’s DCU.

With The Flash now playing in theatres, DC’s next major release will be Blue Beetle. The first trailer for film teased a fun superhero origin story with a perfectly cast Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes.

With hype beginning to grow, director Ángel Manuel Soto took to social media and posted a picture of Blue Beetle. In addition, he also teased fans with a potential cameo appearance from another iconic DC character.

No, it’s not Booster Gold.

While flying in space above Earth, the picture sees the hero holding onto none other than Superman’s cape. This gives fans an idea that James Gunn’s Superman could make a surprise guest appearance in Blue Beetle.

Furthermore, to say that Gunn’s plans for the DCU right now are confusing would be an understatement. Originally it was believed that The Flash would be the start of this new universe that he’s still mapping out.

After all, Gunn confirmed in the DCU slate announcement that the movie would be what resets everything. Nonetheless, this has now been put into question now that it’s been released.

The Flash’s ending has more or less confirmed that it’s an Elseworlds movie rather than the first in the DCU. Unsurprisingly this has left us all scratching our heads about the trajectory of the franchise and it’s future

Moreover, this leaves us wondering where this leaves Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Blue Beetle. Will they be the last remnants of the DCEU or the beginning to the DCU?

It appears we have had half of that question answered thanks to James Gunn. Whilst talking to Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside Of You podcast, Gunn confirmed Blue Beetle is set in the DCU.

He said:

“I mean the first DCU character for sure is Blue Beetle and the first DCU movie is Superman.”

So it’s sounding like Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will officially mark the end of the DCEU. Given Jason Momoa is likely to trade in for the role of Lobo, it makes sense.
