The Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel 2 Setup In WandaVision

Monica Rambeau WandaVision Captain Marvel 2

WandaVision’s mid-credits scene in the last episode helped setup Monica Rambeau for Captain Marvel 2 quite nicely. Be warned: Spoilers ahead!

This Marvel Villain To Appear In WandaVision (Potential Spoilers!)

You might have noticed that Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) secretly meets with a Skrull where she tells Monica “He’d like to meet with you” and Monica asks “Where?” and the Skrull looks and points up.

She’s going into space.

This interaction is basically a setup for the next Captain Marvel movie, and how Monica Rambeau will be meeting Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

Teyonah Parris has been announced that she will be joining the cast of Captain Marvel 2 together with Iman Vellani who is currently playing Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel.

We’re not sure who Monica is supposed to meet. It’s possible that she’s supposed to see Nick Fury.

This confirms that she will be going to space and will be meeting Carol Danvers.

At the moment, there are no other movies or TV shows that reprises her role.

If you are not familiar with her character, she was already in the MCU even before WandaVision.

She is the child Monica (Azari Akbar) in the Captain Marvel film. Young Monica looked up to Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers at the time. Monica also learns about Skrulls at a young age since they were refugees that needed a new home with the help of Monica’s mother and SHIELD Agent Nick Fury.

With that said, you may have noticed in WandaVision that Monica has already grown up. She didn’t seem to want to talk about Captain Marvel with Agent Jimmy Woo (Randal Park) and with Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings).

Highly noticeable was that she seemed even a bit resentful to talk about her.

Why the resentment? What did Carol Danvers do? Or what did she not do?

Is it possible that Monica has this anger against Captain Marvel for not returning or not coming back when she needed her?

Captain Marvel did mention in Avenger’s End Game that she was busy helping other planets.

Parris stated in an interview with TVLine:

I do believe that we’re going to get more into that relationship, and what’s going on with those two (Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau). Not only did (Monica’s mother) pass, but Monica wasn’t there to help her mother transition. And that’s a very hard pill to swallow.

Parris added:

The guilt and the shame and whatever other grief she might be trying to sort through, while returning to work on a project she doesn’t even typically do — there are parallels between Monica’s grief and trauma and tragedy, as well as what Wanda is experiencing. Monica connects with Wanda on that level.

This means that Monica Rambeau’s growth as a character will continue in Captain Marvel 2.

However, some may not be familiar with who she is in the comics.

She’s a super hero with many names in the Marvel Universe.

She is known as Photon, Pulsar and she also got the name Captain Marvel at some point, but she is currently called as Spectrum.

Her powers have this ability to learn any form of energy, gain it, and use it.

In WandaVision, she gains this power by passing through back and forth through Wanda’s hex barrier which changes her DNA giving her energy absorbing powers.

Lastly, her powers are still new and she’s still trying to understand what she can actually do.

We look forward to seeing how Monica Rambeau’s personal journey will turn out in the story, as well as how the dynamics between her having these powers towards other characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022. The movie will stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani.
