The Witcher Gives Henry Cavill A Proper Send-Off In Season Three

The Witcher Season Three will give Henry Cavill a proper send-off as Geralt of Rivia the White Wolf. A few months ago, Cavill announced passing The Witcher torch to Liam Hemsworth for Season Four. Many things have happened since to say the least.

However, prior to the announcement, there was no question as to how fitting Cavill is as the lead witcher of the series. Being a fan of the series from the video game to the novels, Cavill embodied Geralt in every way. Even people behind the camera during the production admitted their amazement. They said that working with Cavill on the set was like working with a walking “The Witcher Encyclopedia.”

Many rumors floated after Cavill’s announcement that his departure is due to “creative differences.” One between him and the show runner Lauren Hissrich together with the writers of the series. Apparently, the production is deviating from the original source material as the seasons progress. And this did not sit well with Cavill.

There is even an interview for the second season where Cavill did express his determination to bring the Geralt of the books into the series. Something that he pushed for the season. He also said that he understood that the series was an adaptation that is from the show runners’ vision. Yet, he still wanted to find the ‘book Geralt’ in the series.  He said:

The things that I pushed for; it was not necessarily just more dialogue. It was bringing a more book-accurate Geralt to the screen. Because as I’m sure you know in the books, Geralt is an amateur philosopher. He’s an intellectual. He’s wise and thoughtful. Yes, he’s at times morose, morbid and snarky. But it’s important for me to have the character be three-dimensional.

And it’s tricky to do, as I was saying earlier, because there’s a certain vision and there’s a certain set, storyline and plot. And so, it was about me trying to find Geralt’s place within that. All of my asks and requests were along the lines of just being faithful to the source material.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports a tease for the upcoming season. Hissrich declares The Witcher Season Three to be a heroic send-off for Geralt of Rivia. Without mentioning Henry Cavill, she states:

Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri [Freya Allan]. And to me, it’s the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that. Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season 4. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.

Are they downplaying the fact that it is the last season of Henry Cavill? Is this their way of preparing the fans to expect Hemsworth for the next season? The upcoming season may very well be Cavill’s deciding factor to stay or to bolt. And we’ve known of his decision for months now.

Just how much of a deviation have they done exactly?
