Without a doubt, Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok won over audiences. The 2017 movie earned $854 million global. In fact, Ragnarok became the biggest box-office smash in the Thor franchise.
Furthermore, critics largely praised its mix of quirky humor and high adventure. Critics reporting to Rotten Tomatoes awarded it with a 93% approval rating. Certainly, Ragnarok‘s irreverent wit distanced itself from its predecessor. Many hardcore MCU fans consider 2013’s Thor: The Dark World among Marvel Studios’ weakest entries. Then again, that’s judging on a curve. Opinions vary, but Marvel Studios has never released garbage, even in the polarizing Phase Four.

The Dark World simply wasn’t as good as its MCU brethren. Nevertheless, the sibling dynamics between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki electrified the screen. Still, Marvel Studios opted for a tonal change in Ragnarok. After all, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige prefers to keep the material fresh.
As a result, Ragnarok felt innovative with its ’80s influences. On the other hand, 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder drifted into silliness perhaps too much. Moreover, the jokes didn’t land like on Ragnarok. Regardless, the sequel grabbed over $760 million worldwide.
Insiders claim that Marvel Studios is focused on playing it straight in the next Thor film. Given that, Marvel Studios will apparently switch directors. As of yet, they haven’t chosen anyone. There’s plenty of time. Indeed, I’m told Thor 5 is years off.

Marvel Studios still wants to introduce Beta Ray Bill in the MCU. Writer/artist Walt Simonson created Beta Ray Bill for Thor No. 337 in 1983. Beta Ray Bill is an alien warrior with a horse-like face. He fights Thor for his hammer Mjolnir. He discovers he’s worthy enough to lift it.
The twist shocked readers. Indeed, I was among them.
Taika Waititi dropped a BRB Easter egg in Ragnarok. He appeared as a sculpture. And that was it. Nothing. Nonetheless, he wouldn’t have fit in Love and Thunder. Wrong tone. Could Thor 5 finally introduce BRB? It’s possible.
